Find Your Park

As 2015 is drawing to a close plans for the upcoming 2016 Centennial of the National Park Service are being implemented. Campaigns like "Find Your Park" and "Every Kid In a Park" are already visible.

As part of the Centennial Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is pleased to support the continued expansion and enhancement of The River Mile.  The network is becoming more and more real all the time. New tools are available for sharing data. The Crayfish Project continues to move forward and gain momentum.

We hope you enjoy the upcoming events and activities and take this opportunity to engage with the natural world around you to Find Your Park!

Calling Community Educators

PEI in partnership with The River Mile (TRM) is seeking Columbia River Watershed Facilitators to provide Field STEM experiences through teacher workshops.  These facilitators will also be a point of contact for teachers to connect to the resources for the Columbia River Watershed "The River Mile".   PEI and TRM will provide FieldSTEM training and offer Columbia River Watershed resources and web based networking

Seeking Teachers in the Columbia River Watershed:
We are now recruiting teachers who wish to become FieldSTEM coaches for their school district or region.  PEI will provide FieldSTEM leadership training and connect participants to FieldSTEM resources and opportunities for students to learn science outdoors.

FieldSTEM is PEI's approach to conducting rigorous scientific investigations and authentic problem-solving outdoors using the tools of technology and mathematics.  Check PEI's website to find the FieldSTEM guides.

PEI and TRM will provide professional development workshops for teachers and community educators that brings environment, agriculture and natural resources into science education.   PEI's FieldSTEM technique integrates the new Washington State Learning Standards (WSLS) combining Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) with Common Core English Language Arts and Math, using the local area of each school district as the focus for learning.

Participants will learn about projects and resources available through the network, as well as how to use networking resources such as online data collection and sharing tools.

PEI and TRM will provide:
  • A workshop in February 2016:  Focused on FieldSTEM in the Columbia River Watershed
  • A workshop in Summer 2016:  Focused on Citizen Science and Technology with ArcGIS reporting FieldSTEM investigations and experiences to the TRM Network
  • FieldSTEM teacher workshop development and support until Fall 2017.
We have several funding options for participation.  Don't let money be the one thing that stops you from doing this.  While we may not be able to fully fund everyone we will help you out as much as we can!

The National Park Service Celebrates 100 years in 2016

The National Park Service (NPS) is excited to celebrate 100 years of engaging citizens through recreation, conservation, and historic preservation programs. On August 25th, 2016 national parks around the country will be celebrating the NPS Centennial, including your local national park, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area at the historic Fort Spokane Visitor Center.

As the NPS enters its next century of service, they are turning to the next generation. A social media campaign, coined Find Your Park, was initiated to connect the younger population to the outdoors and encourage them to find and discover their park. By using the hashtag #findyourpark while posting pictures to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter you can share your national park experience with the country!

Find more information on the NPS Centennial here, and more on Find Your Park here.
