The PA Department of Education (PDE) is hosting a series of public meetings to get
feedback on Pennsylvania's state plan for the Every Student Succeeds A

and discuss the ongoing development of Pennsylvania's State Plan for its implementation, which will be
submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in 2017.
There are several areas in the law that reference or may have a direct impac

Developed and passed with strong, bipartisan agreement, ESSA replaces the No Child Left Behind Act and provides significant flexibility around federal education policy by shifting authority back to states and communities.
Early education representatives participated on each of the four PDE workgroups: Assessment, Accountability, Educator Certification, and Educator Evaluation.
The new framework under ESSA largely goes into effect in the 2017-18 school year, with 2016-17 serving as a transition year. Pennsylvania's existing state plan remains effective until August 1, 2016. Under ESSA, states are expected to continue interventions in priority and focus schools through the 2016-17 school year.
