Studying Abroad - Seminole Ridge High School Students Set to Take Their Studies to Iceland
Shawna Ahmad's AICE Marine Science students at Seminole Ridge High School are gearing up for the trip - and lesson -  of a lifetime. They've been recreating the geothermal spas of Iceland in the classroom, and next month, they'll travel 3,700 miles to get an up close look at the real thing.

Over Thanksgiving break, 11 Seminole Ridge students will travel to the island nation to study plate tectonic theory; observing geysers, glaciers and the Icelandic coastline. Mrs. Ahmad has prepared her students for the difference in climate and temperature.

"When we get to Iceland and you step foot into the Arctic Ocean, you realize not only the cold temperatures, but 400 feet down below there's going to be a drastic change," she shares.

As a result of this class and the upcoming trip, many of these students now have an interest in pursuing a career as a Marine Biologist.

"I just like the ocean.  It's another world, and I've been thinking about advancing and doing something as my career, and I want to learn more," student Austin Costa shares.
