Potter's Wheel Youth Center Opens...

As many of our friends and readers are aware, Friends of Nazareth partners with Nazareth Baptist School and Local Baptist Church each summer to support many camp programs. The camps for 4th-9th grade youth are called Potter's Wheel Camp (PWC). One of our prayers has been for an attractive way to engage youth after PWC.

Through the generous donation of a Friend of Nazareth, FON has partnered with NBS to launch the  P otter's  W heel  Y outh  C enter. There is no other Youth Center like this in Nazareth. The approach is to offer short-term activities that are unique to the community. The plan includes a specific discipline and discipleship. There are very limited extra-curricular programs in the area's public and private schools. Thus, such programs are attractive to the youth and their parents.

The PWYC program began a few weeks ago. One course is bicycling. This is the only youth program for bicyclers in Nazareth. Ten students are enrolled. Each is assigned a competition worthy bike. Students are taught by a Christian instructor who is a competitive rider. Each class includes tactical training, safety practices and Christian sportsmanship and values.

Mike and Donna Chisam, were able to observe the students during one of their biking practices. Smiles and "thank you very much" from the students were plentiful. They have their first competition in November.

Other sports courses, art, music and discipleship events are planned. Pray for course leaders who are competent AND can love the children to Jesus!

Left to right. Najed Azzam, NBS Board President; Fuad Haddad, former NBS General Director; Dr. Wasim Shomar, new graduate of NBS; and, Botrus Mansour, NBS General Director. Dr. Shomar attended NBS until the 11th grade when his family moved to Miami. He cherishes his time as a student at NBS and credits the School for shaping him professionally, academically and spiritually. In the past year, he has been instrumental in leading the initiative for Miami and Nazareth to be "Twin Cities". NBS hosted a Town Hall meeting for graduates, parents and students during a recent visit to the school by Dr. Shomar. During the event,NBS ceremoniously awarded him his High School diploma from NBS. The ceremony included donning him with a robe and mortarboard and conferring his degree. It was a joyous time. Congratulations, Wasim. It is an honor to count you among the distinguished graduates.

The banner honoring the class of 2018 is proudly hung in the courtyard of the Main School's campus. The year is highlighted in the banner with a crown embellished with the Cross. We are proud of you, the 64th graduating class of NBS. May your year be blessed.

Najed Azzam introduces a select team to Donna Chisam. This team is responsible for updating and quantifying the School's Standard of Behavior. They will be working on this initiative for several months.

On October 3, 2018, in Florence, Alabama, about 90 people attended a Friends of Nazareth Awareness Banquet. The keynote speaker for the evening was NBS graduate, Razan Ajaj. She shared about how the School impacted her life spiritually and how its academic record, as well as her own, allowed her to be accepted to the pre-med program at Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA. She is the only Israeli student enrolled at Liberty.

Primary student run relays in the freshly painted courtyard of the Primary School. These children LOVE the new artwork. Another team is heading to Nazareth over the 2018 Easter holiday to complete painting and mural work in other areas of the Primary School.
