Raising Godly leaders for a country in need

Teacher George has

been teaching at G e nes is since 2014 when he learned about Genesis from someone who was helping him apply for a to tally different job in one of the nearby towns. George has risen through the ranks of teachers and now holds the position of Director of Studies for the school (second in command to our headmaster, Bernard). He is responsible for ensuring the academic excellence of the school and supervises everything from teacher's lessons plans to student exams. In addition, he also teaches all the science classes for grades 3-6.

George grew up near Kamonkoli attending a government school. He was one of around 120 students per teacher in a class, and experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to learn and excel in a government school in Uganda. This is one reason he appreciates the smaller classroom sizes and the teachers' ability to give individual attention to each student at Genesis. He believes that each teacher's dedication to their students is one of the defining factors that sets Genesis apart from many other schools in Uganda.

George experienced a faith in Jesus at a young age, though he became more interested and active as a youth. Through teaching at Genesis, George also met his wife, Vicky. Shortly after Vicky finished HUM's sponsorship program and started working as the secretary of the school, George asked for her number and was taken with the way she could so openly and honestly express her opinion on every subject. They got married early this year and are expecting their firstborn son! George says in a few years he hopes his son will also come to school at Genesis!
Wow! So many of you responded to our need to stock up our science department, school technology, library and curriculum. You are awesome! Thanks also to the Bear Valley team for carting many chests of supplies all the way to Uganda as there is no way to ship all of these things. George and all the teachers have been like kids in a candy shop. Most Ugandan teachers cannot even dream of having such classroom sources. Benard, our headmaster now has a quality computer and we will send several classroom computers with our August team.   The children will enjoy Magic School Bus and other educational DVD's on our new projector.   We continue to acquire books for a library and classrooms. THANK YOU!!!

Speaking of a library, we technically don't have room for one at this point, but are starting with smaller classroom libraries for now. We are so amazed to see how far God has brought this ministry and grown Genesis School from a preschool, kindergarten and 1st grade class, meeting in a small church to 5 more classes in 2 beautiful buildings on our HUM property. We have one grade to go and it will begin in late January of 2018.   We also wish to add a "Jump Start" class for students that need extra help transitioning into our school as they become sponsored. Additionally, Benard, our headmaster, is already displaced from a real office to work in a breezeway, although he now has managed to tuck himself into the storage room of the dining hall (with his new computer, although probably no outlets).   Though we would ask that you prioritize any special giving at this time to our kitchen equipment first, please keep this third school building in mind. We have already received a generous gift of $20,000 and several smaller gifts so we are about ΒΌ of the way there.

We are happy to announce the completion of our dining and meeting center, sometimes endearingly reffered to by some of our staff as "The Ark." We continue to work to fill it up and get it ready to use and to efficiently transition between the two kinds of functions.   Of course, the children couldn't wait to use it and have been making do eating on the floor as this is what they are used to anyway in their everyday lives.   We have received a generous gift from Journey Church, formerly of Lafayette, CO, for dining/meeting room furnishings and they are now on order. We also built a few convertible picnic tables that are coming in handy while we wait.

Many of you have given toward Kitchen equipment and cabinets and we thank you for your generousity.   We are, however, short on these funds and ask for your continued prayerful consideration to help meet these needs to feed our kids, some who will eat very little elsewhere.   With so many to feed we need commercial equipment which must be imported and is quite expensive. However, it will last!! Thank you in advance and may God bless you as you share with and in ministry.
