You are invited to join members and friends of Northwest China Council for a family-style luncheon and to hear our featured speaker.

Jennifer Hubbert will speak on China's quest to "win the hearts and minds" of global citizens through exporting culture in the form of Confucius Institute Chinese language programs. Topics will include questions about freedom of speech and inquiry, globalization, and student perspective.

Prof. Hubbert is an anthropologist at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR and a specialist on Chinese state-society relations, public culture, and soft power policy. She has a B.A. (1986) and M.A. (1987) Stanford University; and a M.A. (1994) and Ph.D. (1999) Cornell University.
