Phewa Lake Pokhara, Nepal
As I seem to be doing often lately, I am starting this newsletter with a recap of this past month's travels. My trip to Nepal with Sew Many Places was wonderful and I had an awesome group of quilters with me. Colorful Guatemala is on the calendar for next fall.

I was only home for a few days before it was time to visit Houston, Texas, for the annual Fall Quilt Market. Besides giving me the opportunity to visit old friends and meet new ones, it is a time to discover new products and to find items for the Studio which we'll be showing you in the coming months.

If you will be anywhere near Barcelona, Spain, in March, you will find me at the Sitges Patchwork Festival where I will be teaching and exhibiting many of my quilts. More details to follow in the future.

This month we share with you our beautiful quilts for Quilters' Quest along with options we have available for all of you who can't make it to us plus new kits, products, tips and the next installment of our Block of the Month, Cosmos. Enjoy!

Quilters' Quest 2016 is Underway!
Our annual shop hop, Quilters' Quest, began on Friday and, although it is a crazy-busy time for us it is also a whole lot of fun.

The Quest features specially designed batik fabrics, free patterns, fabulous prizes and lots of fun throughout the 10 participating shops over the course of 10 days. Here are just a few things we have available at the Studio.
  • Our Quest quilt, Labyrinth, uses many of the 10-inch squares "Questers" can pick up at each shop. The free patterns give you the option of making a large or small quilt.
If you can't make it to the Quest

Don't worry if you can't make it to the Washington D.C. area. We still have special items for you.
  • New Fabric: This year's theme is "Salute to Freedom" and we have two batiks made exclusively for the Quest.

For more information on the Quest batiks, click here.
  • If you love our Quest quilt we have Studio versions of Labyrinth available in gorgeous Malam batiks. These kits are come in two colors, Earth or Sea, and in two sizes.
And to get you sewing Labyrinth faster, we have templates already printed for you on Jinny Beyer Studio Multi-Purpose Template film.

Our 2016 Row by Row Kit, Eagle's Pride
We had a wonderful time over the summer with all who visited the Studio as part of the Row by Row Experience. For those of you who don't live close by and couldn't stop in to pick up Eagle's Pride, the waiting period is now over and we can offer the pattern and kit to you.

Eagle's Pride finishes at 36 1/4" x 9 1/4"

Based on the theme, "Home Sweet Home," I designed our row to incorporate the national monuments under the wings of eagles sheltering our city. Its log cabin design is foundation pieced for accuracy.

Millifiori Craze Has Hit the Studio
Inspired by the Italian glasswork technique which produces distinctive kaleidoscopic patterns on glassware, Millifiori quilts can be found all over the internet and here in the Studio.
We have a selection of Millifiori templates, papers, fabric bundles and the book, Millifiori Quilts, by Willyne Hammerstein available here.

Quilt Tip-Framing Blocks
Often when you finish piecing a block, despite your best efforts, the block turns out to be not quite the right size. For many of the block-based quits I make such as Cosmos, I like to frame the block which allows me to end up with each block exactly the correct size.

Measure each way across the center of your block. Cut framing strips to match your measurement but cut them wider. Sew them on to the top and bottom. Press. Repeat on the sides. Now trim your blocks to the size they are supposed to be and, voila, your blocks are perfect.

If adding framing strips is not an option, try blocking your block to size. Visit Tips and Lessons on our website and click on the "Sewing Tips" tab for details of this pressing technique.

2016 Block of the Month - Cosmos - Block 13

The end is in sight; this month you create the next to the last block! This block has all straight seams and the center beautifully showcases your skill at fussy-cutting.

If you're just joining the program, there's no need to worry about catching up. In addition to this month's block, the download link below will give you access to all the materials we've shared so far.

Cosmos has two main color schemes: blue/teal or red/gold. Each of those is available with a light or a dark background for a total combination of four quilts from which to choose.

Click here for more information on Cosmos kits.

We've also created beautiful fat quarter bundles of the fabrics used in the two Cosmos colorways. If you love the colors in the quilt and would like to use them in a different project, this is the choice for you.

Happy Quilting!
