NonVisual Desktop Access IMG
Memphis Public Libraries are opening doors for visually-impaired customers to enter the World Wide Web. Whether seeking employment through online job postings, social networking, or simply shopping online, customers will find what they are looking for at the Library's new Assistive Technology Computer Training Courses, offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. in November and December 2016 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave., room L-50).
During the program, customers who are visually impaired will learn how to use Non-visual Desktop Access (NVDA), a screen reading program which reads text on a computer screen for users. Navigating with the mouse or keyboard arrows, computer users can read text and even convert it into braille, using a device called "braille display." This operating system, which works with Microsoft Windows, is available for customers to download on their personal computers or USBs for use on any computer.
