Afterschool is back at The Commons and we are all focused on success! We are discovering our potential as we challenge ourselves with new experiences and continue to build our community. All hands on deck!
FAREWELL SUMMER
Our summer camp this year saw us visit a number of attractions in and around New York City. Our adventures took us to: Rye Playland, Queens County Farm Museum, Belvedere Castle, Pier 25, Riverbank and Rockland Lake State Park s, The New York Botanical Garden, Governors Island, The New York Hall of Science, Astoria Sports Complex, and too many activities, opportunities, and sights to list here. Both the young people who attended the camp and the youth counselors who assist our staff had a memorable experience.
We are all looking forward to next summer!
AFTERSCHOOL AT ITS BEST
Our afterschool programs are back at The Commons and we are happy to continue our long standing partnership with JCC to offer tutoring. We are working with Trinity School again this year; their student volunteers are also providing tutoring, in addition to teaching a coding class to our youth.
A special thank you to DOME Project founder John Simon for connecting us to the KONE Corporation. They have generously provided The Commons with new laptops to support our work.
STAFF UPDATES
Our team has been busy building connections and taking the steps necessary to promote the overall success of our community.  Christine Byrd-Tucker,  Director of Youth Services, has been working on her graduate degree in social work, and will be executing her residency focusing on juvenile justice at The Dome/The Commons.
Ashley Viruet, Director of Client Advocacy, recently attended the Trinity School Public Service Fair to engage their students in volunteer opportunities at The Commons.

TENANT ADVOCACY
If you or someone you know is facing eviction or other housing related problems, we can help. We provide direct assistance and advocacy services to prevent displacement and  preserve affordable housing on the Upper West Side.

EDUCATION IS A HUMAN RIGHT
TEACH US ALL is a documentary and social justice campaign on educational inequality which seeks to build the capacity of students and educators to take leadership in carrying forth the legacy of the Little Rock Nine while activating broader community engagement in today's urgent movement for educational equity. Visit the website to watch the trailer, learn more about the campaign, request a copy of the curriculum, become an advocate, and/or learn how to host a screening (it's streaming on Netflix). We encourage everyone to watch the film and be a part of the conversation.

Please ask your Human Resources Office about Employee Matching and fill out and submit the appropriate form the next time you make a personal donation to The DOME Project or Strycker's Bay Neighborhood Council.
