"A Prayerful Community on the First Day of School"
Once again this year, we want to call upon our community to spend a few more minutes together in prayer to our King and the plans He has for MCS this year. On Wednesday, September 6th, our gates will open at 7:30 as usual. We will then all join together on the blacktop as a Middle and Elementary School and pray over our students corporately at 8:00. For this day only, all of our students will go in together at 8:10 (with the exception of 8th graders who will have their picture taken.)

From 8:15 to 8:45 our Parents in Prayer (PIP) group and Community Connectors will have stations set up around the school with topics to go before the Lord in prayer. We are hopeful you will be able to stop at one station or even a few. We will be sending out the prayer station topics and locations in advance. Please mark your calendar to join us!!

Carpool: Please enter through the third driveway (by the spirit rock). Our parking attendants will direct you from there. Parents should enter Fischer from Airway turning right into the driveway

Parking: On the first day of school, parking is available in the front parking lot, on Fischer, and on Airway. Please do not park in our neighbors' lots. Thank You!

Please note that Wednesday (9/6) is a Regular Start day.  Late Start Wednesday will begin on Wednesday (9/13).

Uniform Guidelines - Reminders
MCS encourages students to take pride in their appearance and to dress appropriately for all occasions. Recognizing that the quality of their character is more important than clothing, MCS has an established uniform.  Support of this policy begins at home with parents.

Just a reminder that the dress code will be enforced beginning the first day of school.

The Real Reason Back-to-School Makes Us So Emotional
by Dr. Kelly Flanagan
If the reality check of heading back to school is triggering a little emotion in you this week, you are not alone! To borrow from the beautiful words from Dr. Kelly Flanagan, who muses on the "back to school emotions" so eloquently on his blog:

"...Our family will be walking through the boundary lands of first-to-second grade, third-to-fourth grade, and, gulp, seventh-to-eighth grade. Sending Aidan off to kindergarten eight years ago made me more than a little emotional. I thought that would subside over time.

Yet, here I am, feeling the boundary lands once again.

I'm starting to think this back-to-school boundary land is so emotional for so many of us because it stands in for all the other boundary lands. It is a marker of the passage of time, so it is a symbol not just of our kids growing up and moving on but a reminder that all of life is moving on, as well. In every new backpack and lunchbox there is the haunting reminder of birthing rooms and funerals, of seasons rolling along, of a sun relentlessly rising and setting, regardless of our tendency to sleepwalk through it all.

Boundary lands like this one present us with a choice. Will we allow the periods of time between boundary lands to become wastelands-will we slip back into mindlessness about this passage of time, will we settle into the oblivion and become unconscious of it all slipping by? Or will we turn the ordinary, wide-open spaces between boundary lands into farmlands? Will we tend to them, cultivate them, and sow within them mindfulness and intentionality, so that one day we can reap from them the memories of time well spent?..."

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Kelly Flanagan to MCS for our first LEGACY MORNING of the year for MCS Parents! See details below.

Dr. Kelly Flanagan

Dr. Flanagan is the author of "Loveable" and blog "Untangled." He has been featured in The Huffington Post, USA Today, Reader's Digest, babble, and on multiple podcasts on parenting and marriage.

About MCS Legacy Events - Legacy events are a part of our Parent Enrichment/Education offerings. These are mornings that serve to intentionally help us pause and reflect and evaluate how we are building our legacy as parents and as a families. We lean heavily on experience from speakers who are either one step ahead of us in parenting, or who are able to share from a perspective that provides wisdom, inspiration and insight.
