Smoked Cheddar & Apple Empanadas
No holiday festivity is complete without apples and cheddar.
This empanada recipe from Inn Chef Jim McCarthy, however, takes the symbiotic flavor relationship between apples and, in this case, smoked cheddar to new heights!
We Are The Starter Cultures of Social Change
This summer, author and food activist Sandor Katz led a workshop on the Farm about all things fermentation. Like Sandor, we are always engaging people (especially kids) with the food we eat and where it comes from. So after Sandor's workshop, it seemed a natural to Educator Jed Norris to try a sauerkraut lesson with his preschoolers in our outdoor classroom. Read more about the workshop and lesson here.
Fall Farming Update
Today is our last day of cheesemaking for 2016. But if you thought "end of the season" at the Farm meant kick back and relax time, that's hardly the case. We are a farm, after all, so when one season ends, another begins! We wouldn't have it any other way.  Find out what we're up to in the "post-season" -- from cows to cauliflower to cheddar.
Cultivating Pathways to Sustainability
Seventy educators and students gathered at the Coach Barn this fall to focus on one of Vermont Learning for The Future's key goals: to engage educators and student teams in learning beyond conventional school hours and walls. Shelburne Farms Director of Professional Development, Jen Cirillo, shares her experience of the event.
An Evening to Remember
On November 2nd, author and much-loved shepherd, James Rebanks visited the Farm and shared his stories as part of his North American book tour. Thank you to  The Flying Pig Bookstore for making this evening such a success! Follow Rebanks' travels and work on Twitter (@herdyshepherd1), and find his books at The Flying Pig.
