WELCOME PROF. MICHELLE ALEXANDER
 
The Shura Council is pleased to welcome Prof. Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow and Dr. Maha Hilal, Executive Director of the National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms, on Saturday, December 3, 2016, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Our event, " From the Back of the Bus to the Front of the Prison" will give attendees important insight into today's prison system. 

Tickets are $15 online, until Nov. 30th. Then tickets will be sold at-the-door at $20 each. Please reserve your seat now! We also will have limited copies of "The New Jim Crow" available for a $25 donation.


A TIME FOR GOOD DEEDS
 
it has been brought to our attention that the Islamic Education Center in Walnut, a longtime member of the Shura Council and founded by the late Dr. Ahmad Sakr, has been put in a difficult situation by their landlord who has increased their rent. The community has decided to remain at IEC's present location, but must raise funds to do so. Please help by sending  them and email at  [email protected] to set up monthly donations.

Soon you will see bins placed at local masajid to collect brand new unwrapped toys for immigrant/refugee children. Bring a smile to a child's face. Toys will be distributed by SCMCO, a local community organization.


NEWS
 
The 2016 Presidential Election is over. Many people are afraid of the unknown and are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. We must always remember that God is the best of planners.

Read our  Chairman's statement on President-Elect Trump. We must all continue to  uplift our spirits, be thankful to God for all of His blessings and increase our deeds of charity and kindness. 

Some may ask. What can frightened Muslims do in response to Trump's America? As  Latinos, Blacks and Muslim brace for next 4 years.
 
Meanwhile, Muslim communities struggle for acceptance and hate crimes against Muslim students reported  after Trump's victory.
 
Another interesting note, private prison stocks rise after Trump victory although Obama's administration is ending the use of them.
 
Did you know that there is a connection between Islam and modern mathematics?
