The Oklahoma League In Action

Last week, OML Deputy Director of External Operations and Government Affairs Missy Dean attended the State Chamber Economic Development Taxation and Retail Policy Committee, impact of small structures interim study, election issue interim study, interim study over boards that control trusts and commissions, excess water interim study, the State Chamber 2030 Regional Forum, and she spoke at the planning for prosperity meeting in the House.
 
Executive Director Mike Fina, and Conference and Programs Manager Sarah Lingenfelter met with Visit Enid to discuss the 2018 MCO Summer Conference.
 
Deputy Director of Internal Operations and General Counsel Sue Ann Nicely, and Inquiry and Special Programs Director Kelly Danner spoke at the New Officials Institute in Woodward at the Woodward Conference Center and were joined by Conference and Programs Manager, Sarah Lingenfelter.
 
OML hosted a District Dinner Meeting in Woodward on Thursday at the Woodward Conference Center.
Choctaw Mayor And OML Vice President Randy Ross Accepts Prestigious Award
On Sunday, October 8, 2017, OML Vice President and Choctaw Mayor Randy Ross was inducted into the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.  Mayor Ross received the Outstanding American honor, which is given to former wrestlers who are highly successful and use the disciplines learned in wrestling in their current profession.
 
Ross wrestled on two state championship teams at Midwest City High School as well as for University of Central Oklahoma, where he earned All-America honors in 1973 and was team captain.  He has been a volunteer coach for Choctaw and Midwest City school districts for years.  He has also officiated wrestling matches for 27 years.  He worked several Oklahoma state tournaments, NAIA national tournaments held at UCO and was named one of the top five officials in the state for 10 consecutive years.

2017 OML District Dinner Meetings - Ardmore Dinner Held, Next Up Join Us In Ponca City on October 19th! 
Join us for one of our District Dinner Meetings! The Ardmore District Dinner was held last week and the next District Dinner is on October 19th in Ponca City at El Patio Mexican Restaurant. Additional October meetings will be in Tahlequah at Napoli's on October 24, and Weatherford at Lucille's Roadhouse on October 26. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to connect with other municipalities in your district and meet your OML Field Representative. OML will facilitate the meeting where we will discuss the 2018 legislative session and share the latest League news. Register For The Municipal Clerks & Treasurers Training In Sand Springs: November 3rd
On November 3rd in Sand Springs, the Oklahoma Municipal League will host its Municipal Clerks and Treasurers (MC&T) training. This workshop fulfills state requirements for the MC&T certification program, as well as 4 hours of Certified Municipal Officials (CMO) credit. If you are a current member of the MC&T program, there is no charge to attend these events. Contact Kelly Danner if you have any questions. New Officials Institute Held In Woodward, Registration Available For Next Session On November 16th In McAlester
Thursday, October 12, OML staff and instructors traveled to Woodward and hosted over 40 municipal officials at the Woodward Conference Center. Attendees heard from governing professionals from around the state about topics such as budgeting and open records.  The next opportunity to attend a New Officials Institute will be on November 16th in McAlester at Eastern Oklahoma State College.  More Information

Call for Nominations for OML Board Seat for District 8: Deadline October 27th
The OML District 8 Board seat is now open due to Randy Ross, Mayor of Choctaw, becoming the new OML Board Vice President. Community Leadership Development Class 6 Holds Session 4 In Ardmore
The Community Leadership Development class traveled to Ardmore October 5th and 6th for Session 4, Lead by Example. Thursday October 5th the class had the opportunity to attend OML's District Dinner Meeting at CafĂ© Alley. The District Dinner Meeting was the first District meeting of the year.  Executive Director Fina welcomed the class and gave an OML update and Missy Dean, Deputy Director of External Operations/Government Affairs gave a legislative update. Wrapping up the evening Vice Mayor Sheryl Ellis welcomed the group to Ardmore and shared some of the past and present exciting changes taking place in her city!   Read Article

Our Membership Services Assistant Melanie Armstrong has been with OML since February of this year. Born in Marietta, Oklahoma, she is a veteran Okie with deep southern roots. Day to day she is knee deep in mail outs, customer service, printing, and publications. She has one cat and currently resides in Oklahoma City. Thank you Melanie for everything you do!

Community Convening Education Meeting To Be Held In Oklahoma City On October 25th
On Wednesday, October 25, the Oklahoma State Department of Education will be hosting a special Community Convening to share Oklahoma Edge: 8-year Strategic Plan for Education. Promote health and wellness where Oklahomans live, work, learn and play. Applications are being accepted through November 1, 2017. Cities and towns can apply for certification under both the community and business categories with this program. Visit Frederick's Cotton Festival & Chili Cook Off!
On Saturday, November 4, Frederick Chamber of Commerce will host it's 10 th Annual Cotton Festival and Chili Cook Off. There will be activities for all ages such as Cow Patty Bingo, Little Miss Cotton Ball Pageant, and the Cotton Gin Tour! 2017 OML Award Winners 
The 2017 OML Annual Conference brought the announcement of winners of several prestigious awards such as the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for City and Town Officials, The Innovations Awards, Mayor of the Year Awards, Don Rider Award, Gerald Wilkins Award, and OMCTFOA Member of the Year.
