SRHS Wins Gold Circle and Blue Ribbon Award
Recognition Comes From the NH Partners in Education Organization

Earlier this month, Principal Brian M. Stack of Sanborn Regional High School received notification from the New Hampshire Partners in Education organization that our school is being recognized this year with two awards: The Blue Ribbon, and the Gold Circle. New Hampshire Partners in Education works to foster, support, and celebrate volunteer programs in each and every school across the Granite State. This is done by celebrating school-related and volunteer efforts, celebrating business and community partnerships to create bridges between these groups and New Hampshire's educational community, and celebrating the efforts of individual volunteers.

Mr. Stack had this to say about the awards:

"Sanborn Regional High School has been honored with the blue ribbon award for several years in a row, due in large part to the dedicated volunteers who make our PTO and booster groups an active and vibrant part of our school community. This year's Gold Circle award recognition comes about due to the school's extensive partnerships with local business and community leaders, including Plaistow Area Commerce Exchange (PACE).Through these partnerships, our school is able to offer career speaker presentations, job shadows, and internships for our students, all in an effort to promote college and career readiness for the children of our local communities of Fremont, Newton, and Kingston."

Please join us in thanking all of our volunteers and community partners who make a difference for our students each and every day.

Senior Spotlight : Sophia Cesati
An Article by Science Teacher Meghan Petruzzi

Each week, our school will highlight a Sanborn senior with a tradition known as a "Senior Spotlight article". Spotlight articles are written by teachers as a way to tell the stories of all of the great things that our students are engaged in as students at Sanborn Regional High School.
Sophia Cesati transferred to Sanborn as a sophomore, she loves the small school community and immediately got involved.  She joined the field hockey team, where she quickly met friends, but has decided to focus her senior year on academics.  Sophia is a people person and knows that being able to converse well with anyone is a great asset.  This skill makes it easy for her to adapt to most situations and allowed her to blend in at her new school.  Sophia's most memorable high school experience was attending the Raymond basketball games. She enjoyed the passion everyone showed in coming out to support the school against their biggest rivals. A close runner up though was prom and being able to go to Salisbury beach in fancy attire. I had the privilege of having Sophia in my science class for 2 years, where I have seen her mature and grow as a person.

The transition from the beginning of junior year to senior year is night and day.  Sophia chooses to work independently to stay away from distractions and get her work done.  She is definitely more focused on school and achieving her goals. She is really interested in forensic psychology because she loves "figuring out how people's minds work, especially criminals. I want to be able to help people while also having an interesting career and this career would allow me to do both."  She is currently considering applying to Mount Ida and Salem State University.

Did You Know?
By Annie Collyer, Chairperson, SRSD Budget Committee

Did You Know that the Sanborn Regional School Budget Committee met on September 28 to set the budget preparation process for FY 2018-19?  The members deliberated to establish their Budget Preparation Calendar, so that they can thoroughly review the costs and benefits for students, of spending proposals from the District Administrators and the School Board recommendation.  The Calendar for Budget Preparation is posted on the SAU17.org website.

Members are currently gathering information on actual spending from FY 2016-17, and on the budgeted line items for the current fiscal year.  They will be meeting with Administrators to discuss the costs and benefits of current and desired spending in the next school year.  The role of the Budget Committee is to balance needs in the District with the impact on community taxpayers, and to propose a budget to the community voters in February.

You can attend meetings and/or watch posted videos of meetings and read the meeting minutes found on the SAU17.org website. Your participation is welcomed, and there is time for public comment at every meeting.
