Bits and Pieces
October 14, 2017

WHA-HOO!  Shop Hop 2017 is under our belt and was a blast!  I hope all you hoppers enjoyed it even half as much as we did!  Haven't talked that much since probably last year.  At the end of this newsletter, I will post all the prize winners who were drawn at our Monday dealers meeting, so keep reading!

In the meantime, we have the classroom back in shape for our monthly classes.  And our specialty classes.  To begin with, on Wed. and Thursday (10-18, 19) LeAnn is teaching the Fiberworks Collage Workshop.....in which you will certainly be using those purple handled Kai scissors with the serrated blade that you purchased during the Hop!  They are THE BEST for fussy cutting accurately and easily, along with lots of other uses!  This is a perfect class to use them, so be sure to bring them with you.  Interest in these quilts has not waned since first introduced by LeAnn and followed by a special class with Laura Heine, herself and in person, teaching.  They're just too much fun to make to do just one, and we have lots of inspirational samples and patterns around.  The big, cute squirrel at the front of the shop is my new fave.  You choose and make YOUR FAVE.....

More class time with Jan and Beginning Embroidery is on Friday.  New to the area?  Come on in and join us at any time.  Have a new or slightly used emb. module?  Learn some of the wide perameters for your machine.  Learn how to use it and you will learn to love it, if you don't already.  A few good lessons and tips often go a loooooong way.

Stay over or come in that evening for Pajama Mamas, and work on any project of your choosing, and shop, sew, visit, snack with new and long time friends.

Bags With Joan is Sat. and Sunday's offering, and will be moving into a new venue from the bags at the start of the year.  So if you need instruction or just sew-time with Joan on the bags, now's the chance.

Stitch and Sew with Barb T. is on Monday.  The newer title leads you in to the classroom, where you can work on your project of choice, no outside interruptions, in hopes of finishing all those wonderful holiday gifts and décor items.  Many already in the class will be finishing a bargello project, but your project is your choice.

Judy Niemeyer for Beginners follows with Mary on Tuesday, and is your entry class into the wonderful world of paper piecing.  Mary's instructions make this process so very much easier and understandable.  It was Mary and Friends who got me hooked and addicted to the process!  This is the way to begin a life-long loving quilting process, in my opinion.

Being familiar with the paper piecing process (try that 3 times fast!) opens up whole worlds of adventure and beauty, like our Paper Piecing Camp Oct. 25-28 with Tammy Doane, where we will be featuring "Diamond Wedding Star".  All other classes by SVQ are suspended during this camp time, and I encourage you to join us for Certified Instructor Tammy's class!  One set-up in the classroom till the end of class, work on one  project with lots of tips, techniques and time.  We have a few spots open, so do your best to join us.  I'll be taking the class with you!

One new upcoming class with a personal, if not artistic flair, will be " Photos To Quilts" designed by LeAnn Hileman!  Please come to the classroom and see LeAnn's samples.  They are fabulous!  She has spent considerable time taking this process of working from a photograph or an image and creating it into a pictorial quilt, and making it easy for you to understand and to make.  Each will be different, and so the classes will begin with a lecture and discussion, followed by lots of hands-on instruction as you create your dimensional and unique project!  This is just a great opportunity!  My favorite is the rustic barn and fence scene she has made.  I can't draw, but I can quilt and I have a whole collection of personal photographs to draw from, just as you do.  Make them even MORE SPECIAL!!!!  Can't you just envision Katie and Emi Lee on a quilt?!?!?

And, finally, Claudia Dinnell will be here Nov. 8 and 9 teaching her new embroidery pattern, " Summer Lovin"!  She's a hard girl to get scheduled, so don't miss out while we still have room!  We will have her supply sheet available to you as soon as we get it, and you will have two full days to work on this with Claudia teaching her design.  She's just an incredible teacher...and that's why she's so hard to get scheduled!  Then on Friday, Claudia will be here teaching the ins and outs of Version-8 Digitizing, to make the process easier, faster and more complete for you.  It will be a highly educational opportunity for you to learn to further master V-8 digitizing.  Don't miss it!

Our special color of the week, when you tell us, will be green, and when you purchase one half yard (or more) of fabric from the bolt you will get an additional 15% off of that fabric.  In addition to your "thank you for shopping with us" bonus points.  Thank you for continuing to "like Us" on Facebook, and for being a customer/friend of ours at SVQ!  For further class info., check out the website at www.sunvalleyquilts.com or give us a call.  We love to talk, don't you know!
