ENERGY SPOTLIGHTS
Campus Spotlights

Join Mr. McMillan and the EIHS Game Club as they host their first event this Saturday.  Tickets will be sold during lunch this week. Please see Mr. McMillan if you have questions. Good luck to all those participating this year!

Cohort Challenge Winners:
ENERGY ENIGMAS
Congratulations to Freshman Cohort 2, the Energy Enigmas, for donating 210 items to the Houston Food Bank! It was a hard-fought race. A special shout out goes to the Nuclear Brainstormers who lead for most of the drive and donated 156 items.

All together, the Energy community collected almost 700 items.  Congrats to all who donated and got the word out.  Our first Cohort Cup will be awarded to Freshman Cohort 2 and their mighty leaders, Ms. Karacoc, Ms. Meyers, Mr. Young, and Dr. Hall!

Student Spotlights
From Ms. Baird: I have been more than impressed with many students this year. One in particular stands out. Gabriel Seyoum has been more than an ideal student; he has been an exceedingly genuine person, outgoing and kind to his teachers and classmates. I have seen Gabe demonstrate outstanding leadership ability and a clear sense of purpose. I have enjoyed getting to know him as a student and an individual. Gabe is very motivated, creative and an absolute pleasure to have in class

As my student, Gabe has proven himself to be an intelligent and dedicated young man. More than that, though, Gabe has shown that he possesses a true love for learning and things like art. He welcomes the challenge of new problems and tackling new concepts.
Teacher Spotlight
Inspired by his travels, genuine love for history, and social studies, Mr. Tate decided to become a teacher. At Energy, Mr. Tate teaches World History, AP World History, and One Goal (an elective for college preparation). Before teaching, he worked in the nonprofit world before realizing another passion of his. Now, his favorite part of educating is communicating with students. "Personally interacting with 100 young people is fun, funny, and people make me laugh. There's a lot of positive energy in teaching," explains Mr. Tate about his teaching experience.

Growing up, Mr. Tate always volunteered and eventually started to work full-time for a non-profit organization. In 2010, a mass earthquake shook Haiti and he was hired to oversee all reconstruction projects there. This year, a hurricane struck Haiti and the need for experienced workers beckoned Mr. Tate. In Haiti, he worked with a group of people to create a plan on what actions needed to be taken, how much it would cost, and how they would actually implement it. His team created a document related to that plan, which helped provide shelter, food, seeds for farmers to re-grow crops, and used the document to try and raise more money for the cause.

Mr. Tate's Words of Wisdom: "For me, the best thing is to see students learn what they are capable of in terms of working, reading, understanding and writing because those are the things that are going to make them successful in college and in life no matter what they're doing."

Jeremy Loss would like to give a high five to Joangel Medina, "He is really hard working and always contributes to projects and is a very helpful person."

Ms. Ramirez would like to acknowledge Ms. Moon and Mrs. MacGregor for planning and orchestrating the groundbreaking ceremony.

Mr. Tate would like to give a shout out to Megan and Reagan for their amazing interview skills.
Make it a great day for someone else by publicly acknowledging a member of Energy.
