West Entrance Dedication
Friday, December 2, 7:00 pm

The Board of Trustees of Temple B'nai Israel is excited to be dedicating the Temple's new West Entrance this Friday. A ribbon cutting ceremony will occur under the shelter of the impressive West Entrance, and Shabbat services will be held in the sanctuary immediately after the ceremony.

The donors whose generosity enabled the Temple to construct the West Entrance will be honored at the ribbon cutting ceremony and recognized during Shabbat services.

We look forward to celebrating with you this Friday!
First Shabbat Mussar & Minyan

Saturday, December 3, 9:00 & 10:15 am

On the first Saturday of every month a lively group gathers to discuss Jewish perspectives on mindful living, called "mussar" (moo-sahr). This month the topic is "anger," with conversation facilitated by Ann Louise Olson. We serve coffee with caffeine, and welcome everyone interested in how anger is seen in Jewish tradition.

Following the mussar discussion, our monthly Shabbat morning minyan will be led by Zemer Sweenie in the chapel. "Minyan" simply refers to the ten Jews that customarily make up a prayer quorum. Our monthly minyan is a quiet, sweet service where we encourage participation.

Attend both the mussar class and the prayer minyan, or come for just one or the other. Either way, you will be welcomed to our first Shabbat of the month community.

  Adult Hebrew Classes

Sunday, December 4, 2:00 pm & 3:00 pm

This year, Zemer Sweenie teaches both Beginning Hebrew and Level II Hebrew classes on Sunday afternoons from November 20, 2016 through May 21, 2017. We will focus on Biblical Hebrew and use the textbook series Aleph Isn't Tough, by Linda Motzkin. Students may purchase Volumes I or II at the Temple Gift Shop or online.
It's Like Two Mitzvot In One: Travelers Aid

Each year a dedicated group of volunteers assist the traveling  public at Will Rogers World Airport by providing information about  airport services and the Oklahoma City metro area. Every day, these  trained volunteers assist travelers, military personnel - including  new recruits, and international students with information, referrals  and emergency assistance at the airport.

Every Christmas, a group from Temple B'nai Israel steps in so the  regular volunteers can spend the holiday with their families. It's a lot  of fun and very rewarding. If you are interested in joining the group  from the Temple, contact Brad Marion at [email protected], or  give him a call (consult your new directory for his phone number). But  you better hurry, time slots fill up quickly.

Who are the Latke Ladies? The Latke Ladies are anyone interested in cooking, eating or learning to make Latkes. And you don't have to be a lady to participate. The Latke Ladies will hold their inaugural event beginning at 11:00 am on December 18, 2016. If you are interested in joining the fun and fellowship, bring your favorite latke recipe and ingredients to the Temple kitchen between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, for a come and go latke-making session. Oil and frying pans will be fired up and ready to go.

The Latke  Ladies are joining forces with the Brotherhood for this  1st Annual "Vodka and Latkes" celebration. More information to follow.
Rosh Hodesh Conversations

Thursday, December 29, 6:30 pm (Tevet)

Rosh Hodesh is the start of the new month on the Hebrew calendar.  These informal discussions review the special days coming up in  the Jewish month, and provide a forum for open Q&A with the Rabbi.  Whether you have general questions about Judaism or are contemplating  conversion, come meet the Rabbi in the Temple lounge for a Rosh Hodesh  conversation.
