NEWS

I am so pleased to announce that I have completed the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program. It has taken me over 20 years to find my way to this milestone (since my very first class in Boston when I was in my 20s), and I feel like it is just the beginning. I took a one month sabbatical from my work, and with support of my family and friends, I spent 26 days at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Ayurveda in the Berkshire Mountains. So many lessons were presented, both on and off the mat. Our class had 42 other students from around the world, ranging in age from 20-70. One of the assistants was our very own Jason Kelly, former NMY teacher. Classroom learning was about the breadth and depth of "yoga", including: breath, meditation, asanas/postures, science, anatomy, philosophy, principles and ethics. Off the mat lesson revolved around building a community of care and respect among a very diverse group of people all working toward the same personal goal. The discipline or practice of yoga is rich and fertile ground for a lifetime of study, to whatever degree you are called to pursue it.

Special thanks to Carol Walker for keeping things running smoothly while I was away. I look forward to sharing a class with you soon! (My first class will be Saturday, December 3 at 8:00 a.m.)

YOGA MALA 2017! Please Join!

Newmarket Mills Yoga will be participating in this year's Yoga Mala, scheduled for 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, at the Rivermill Landing in Dover. Please join the team or consider supporting a fellow yogi! Registration is $50 and then you are encouraged (but not required) to raise additional funds to support Seacoast SATYA, the local non-profit organization that brings yoga to under-served communities. Join hundreds of other
Seacoast yoga people, led by teachers from many studios, through 108 sun salutations. It is a fun and energizing community experience, for a great cause. More information to come soon, but if you know you are interested in joining, or you have any questions, please email me ([email protected]) so I can add you to the list of our Mill Yoga team!

A YOGA SANCTUARY:

One of the greatest gifts that yoga brings is access to a neutral place of peace, inside your own being. The mat served as a life raft for me when I was in the swirl of early adulthood, trying to find stability, so that I could create a life that "fit".

Over the past few weeks many have come to the studio seeking a refuge from troubling times of division within our communities and in our world. With compassion, we ask that members of this yoga community respect the studio space as a neutral place, where issues, opinions and assumptions are left at the door, so that we have the peace to access that place within. Thank you and Namaste to all.
