Dear Reader
After reading today's
Editorial, one can only conclude that we are being set up to fail, by default. The deadline of October 31 is simply not realistic. Sometimes when we look at the timing of certain things, we wonder if there is a bigger picture we are missing.
By the way... if we fail to implement the Integrity Chamber in a timely fashion, there is always another watchdog to keep an eye on things, and that is the office of the
Ombudsman. Let no one tell you otherwise: the checks and balances in country St. Maarten are functioning quite well. The Ombudsman also plans to monitor the "relief, recovery and rebuilding" process. We will bring you more news on that in a next edition.
Question... how hard is it to de-register
St. Maarten refugees stuck in Holland and caught in a 'bureaucratic nightmare' because of that issue? Maybe the Ombudsman should look into that as well.
Today, Satuday, October 14th, we kick off activities leading up to St. Martin's Day on November 11th, with a Children's Parade in Philipsburg, thereby also making a soft launch of the
#sxmstrong campaign under the slogan "Rebuilding our Nation".

That the rebuilding process has already begun is also confirmed by Sol in their
press statement yesterday as they announce the re-establisment of fuel supply all over the island.
So after you finish this newsletter, do come out and enjoy the parade - which starts at 11am today - and have a great weekend!
