There are many times that being brave means speaking up or stepping out of your comfort zone. And, there are times when the courageous act is to say no, to hold your ground. This Sunday, we'll hold space for both responses. 
This week in Religious Education: Courage through our UU source of science and reason:
Our *Spirit Play classes are exploring our Green, UU promise: Grow by Seeking. *World of Wonder (Preschool) will hear the story of The Empty Pot . *Roots and Wings (K-2) will learn about our Unitarian ancestor Charles Darwin. Curiosity Club will investigate the inspiring life of activist Christopher Reeve. Harry Potter and UU (6th-8th grade) will be making  wands to help them battle evil. High School Youth group (9th-12 grade) will be baking cookies for youth group alumni.
International Outreach Bake Sale This Sunday
Come buy some goodies between services!
Please Update Your Information for the Fall Church Directory
Please update your info on the printouts in the Commons this Sunday. We will be printing a new in-house paper church directory soon. It should be available to pick up in the office by mid-November.
Sing for Shalom with  Sylvia McNair and Friends, 
This Sunday, October 15th at 2:00 PM,  First United Methodist 
Enjoy an afternoon of love songs by Grammy winner Sylvia McNair. Ray Fellman will also  perform!  Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children and students and will be available between services in the Commons on October 15th and at the Sunrise Box Office downtown. Proceeds support the Shalom Community Center. 
Your Pledge Dollars at Work
We have 16 first and second graders who are about to complete their Our Whole Lives (OWL) sexuality curriculum. Your pledge dollars helped pay for training the four facilitators for this program.
Interfaith Winter Shelter Chipotle Fundraiser October 17
     Our Homelessness Task Force encourages you to support the Interfaith Emergency Winter Shelter Chipotle Fundraiser at either of the two Bloomington locations on Tuesday, October 17th between 5:00pm and 9:00pm. Just tell the cashier you are supporting the Winter Shelter event. The Winter Shelter will receive 50% of the proceeds.
Refugee & Immigrant Support & Education (RISE) Task Force Brainstorming on October 18

Green Sanctuary Task Force Fall Clothing Swap Saturday, October 21 
    The Green Sanctuary Task Force encourages all of us to examine our habits of consumption.  What do we buy? Where does it come from? What happens to it when we're finished with it? What impact does our consumption have on the earth and its inhabitants?  This fall's Swap will be held on October 21 from 9:30 am until noon.
