LUM Receives Federal Grant & Corporate Gift

LUM Awarded $17,000 Federal EFSP Grant
|
Lafayette Urban Ministry has been recently awarded $17,250 in Phase 34 Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding. EFSP is a program of the federal government designed to quickly provide emergency relief to those in our nation with critical food and shelter needs.
This award will have a tremendous positive impact on LUM’s ability to assist families with critical food needs through the LUM
Good Samaritan Fund and to offer emergency housing to individuals in transition at the LUM
Emergency Shelter.

This week, Joe Howarth, Centier Bank Lafayette Market President, presented Joe Micon, LUM Executive Director with a check for
$750
.
Earlier this summer,
Centier Bank partnered with Lafayette Urban Ministry to support LUM’s programs & services as a part of its
Community Days
celebration at their new Lafayette East banking center. Community Days raised $250 for LUM Programs and Services. Centier Bank is donating the additional $500 to
Hunger Hike
.

Congress Street United Methodist Church has selected HUNGER HIKE as one of the benefactors of their annual
Great Pumpkin Patch. This partnership includes Hunger Hike providing volunteers (3 hour shifts) to work at the 14th annual
Great Pumpkin Patch -- as well as bake and ice cookies (2 - 2.5 hour shifts). If you’re willing to either help with the Pumpkin Patch (Oct. 6 - 31) or with the Cookies (NOW thru Oct. 20) — here’s what you do:

Saturday, September 16 is the 5th Annual HH5K Run. Sunday (September 17) is the 25th annual Hunger Hike 3K Walk. Proceeds benefit LUM Food Programs, Food Finders Food Bank Inc., & St. Thomas Aquinas’ Haiti Ministry. Mark your calendars, get your team together and start raising funds TODAY. Go to

The Turkey Trot 5K is a fundraising event supporting LUM on Thanksgiving morning at 8 a.m. at McAllister Park, Lafayette. It is open to runners of all ages and abilities and welcomes runners, walkers, dogs, strollers, wagons, turkey hats and more. Go to

LUM Jubilee Christmas serves over 600 families and 1,800 children. Parents visit one of dozens of churches and shop for their children. In addition to the toys and clothes, each family receives a ham and homemade cookies to make Christmas dinner special. Jubilee Christmas

Weekend of Theological Reflection, Central Presbyterian Church (Lafayette) is hosting
An Afternoon with Reinhold Niebuhr. The event will include a viewing of the PBS film,
An American Conscience - The Reinhold Niebuhr Story,
as well as an introduction and a discussion led by Dr. Jeremy Sabella, the author of the film's study guide.
