SAN FRANCISCO: FOOTLIGHTS 1/6/17

Please join the Dramatists Guild for a San Francisco Footlights staged reading of  The Promise, a play about sex, God, and rock & roll, by Vonn Scott Bair.

The Promise tells the story of a band of that name which broke up three years earlier on the verge of superstardom. The two couples who made up a band named "The Promise" spiraled downhill under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Randy and Theresa stopped their slide, found God, and now work in the Christian music industry. Chase and Jodi hit rock bottom and never got back up. However, they have an offer from a music executive: if "The Promise" reunites, the band will receive 1.2 million dollars. Guaranteed. Randy and Theresa make a counter offer. They want Chase and Jodi to become born-again Christians like themselves. This accidentally sets up a tragic clash between two couples who only want the best for each other.

Vonn Scott Bair is an actor, playwright, screenwriter and amateur cookie baker based in San Francisco, with 30 productions of his plays and screenplays to his credit. Most recently, Keep Moving, Nothing to See received a production in December as part of the Playwrights Center of San Francisco's PlayOffs at the Exit Theatre, while the one act play Land of Hope & Dreams won the Helen Jean Play Contest.
