The Department of Philosophy is hosting a Tribute to Erik C. Banks on Thursday, November 9, 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Student Art Gallery on the second floor of the Stein Art Galleries in the Creative Arts Center. Erik's drawings will be available for viewing in the Student Art Gallery Monday, November 6 - Thursday, November 9, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A silent auction will be held on a selection of the drawings during this time. All members of the University and the larger Dayton-Yellow Springs community are welcome to attend

Panelists will include: David Singleton, Director of the Ohio Justice Policy Center (OJPC); Wendy Stiver, Major, Central Patrol Operations Division in the Dayton Police Department; and David Finnie, Wright State Chief of Police. The event takes place on Wednesday, November 8, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Student Union Endeavour Room. This program is being sponsored by Wright State's Applied Behavioral Sciences, Sociology and Anthropology, Crime and Justice Studies, African and African American Studies, Communication, Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center, and the Women's Center.

In-Hong Cha, Music, has been nominated for a 2017 Latin Grammy Award in the category of Best Classical Album with Textures from the North of South, conducting the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra. He will attend the awards ceremony in Las Vegas on November 16. Congratulations and best of luck to In-Hong! |
The online application for scholarships for 2018-19 is officially open! Wright State has a common portal that helps students apply for multiple scholarships with just
one application
, and the deadline for all students is Monday, January 8, 2018. Last year, CoLA students received $103,170 from college and university-level scholarships alone, and this does not even include the additional support awarded at the departmental level. Please encourage your students to take the time to apply! There are two additional scholarships open only to CoLA students: the Liberal Arts Leadership Scholarship and Study Abroad Scholarship. Applications are due to the CoLA Dean's office (163 Millett Hall) by Friday, January 26, 2018.
Calling all student entrepreneurs! The Raj Soin College of Business is accepting applications for this year's Wright Venture competition. In the program, students collaborate with local business leaders and the Small Business Development Center to develop comprehensive business plan proposals. Selected finalists will pitch their plans in front of a live audience and compete for a business startup loan of up to $5,000. All current students are eligible to apply online by December 4.

This week's featured member of the Dean's Student Advisory Board (DSAB) is Kayla Mosley. Kayla is a sophomore majoring in English with a concentration in Literature, along with a minor in Deaf Studies. Kayla is quite involved on campus. In addition to serving on DSAB, Kayla is involved with Raiderthon, 4 Paws, and the English Club. She is always eager to meet and connect with other Raiders on campus and loves lending a helping hand. Kayla hopes to further her studies in English by attending graduate school after earning her undergraduate degree. |
