Day 1: Leading, Teaching, and Training Millennials
Has your organization had a large influx of new people or is undergoing significant changes in operations, structure or procedures? This fast moving workshop will help you to greatly improve your understanding, communication skills, and training and teaching techniques and practices. It provides the tools needed to identify and address a diverse workforce, including differing learners and millennials.
In this workshop, you will learn:
  • How to motivate and lead millennials
  • Adult teaching-learning techniques and practices
  • Methods for addressing diverse learning styles
  • Methods for improving memory retention
  • The difference between visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners and how to reach and teach them.


Day 2 (Morning): Trends in Society Affecting Criminal Justice
The job isn't getting any easier.
This fast paced workshop will focus on:
  • Changes that have impacted our lives over the past decades.
  • Societal changes that continually impact law enforcement agencies.
  • Examines how those changes affect the organization and the people doing the job.
  • Explore YOUR unique style of thinking and communicating.
  • Help you better understand why and how you react to different people and issues.
  • Identify approaches that you can use to address stress in yourself and others.
  • Approaches that leadership teams can take to address stress and it's negative impacts.
  • Organizational approaches to reducing burnout.
 
Day 2 (Afternoon): Expanding Accountability in Criminal Justice Agencies
This workshop will arm supervisors with effective and innovative approaches for dramatically improving team and organizational accountability. Leaders will learn ways to increase accountability and performance at all levels of the organization.
This workshop addresses key issues such as:
  • Obstacles to accountability in organizations
  • Identifying things supervisors do to discourage accountability
  • The power of gossip in undermine effective organizational and team performance and accountability
  • Processes and methods that low performers use to avoid accountability.


INSTRUCTOR:
Dr. Lewis Bender is Professor Emeritus at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  He has researched and taught a wide variety of courses related to management and supervision.  His primary research focus has been on organizational teams and the myriad factors and variables that impact team processes and effectiveness.  Dr. Bender received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia (1977), Masters Degree from Wayne State University (1973), and baccalaureate from Grand Valley State University (1971).     
 
 
TARGET AUDIENCE:
  • All members of the criminal justice community (sworn or non-sworn).
  • Public Service Supervisors and Managers including, law enforcement, city, county or state government supervisory positions (City Manager's office, public works, etc.).
