Distribution: All Volunteers
To all volunteers:

At SCORE, we put our clients first, and their success is our success. We embrace innovation, responsiveness, and team collaboration - all in the name of excellent client service. And, we have been successful in our efforts! As we look at the present and the future, however, we have a critical need to address to continue to be successful in serving our clients, growing SCORE, and fulfilling our mission.

Our future demands that SCORE be a more inclusive organization. Inclusive with regards to our culture, how we attract new volunteers, how we treat other SCORE volunteers, and to better understand how our words, behaviors, and unconscious biases impact those around us, volunteers and clients alike. To remain relevant and vital, we need to reflect the small business communities we serve. We need to ensure that all volunteers who are willing to serve SCORE's mission find SCORE to be a place where they can thrive. Examples include a new female volunteer who joins a predominantly male chapter, or a working volunteer who is only able to give a couple of hours per month to help us better serve our clients. In cases like these, the status quo of how we have operated hasn't always been conducive to engaging and retaining those willing and able to help SCORE. But, we control our own future!

To guide that future, we have created a plan to improve SCORE's inclusion and diversity.
Watch this 2 minute video that I put together speaking about why this is so important to SCORE. All of the resources mentioned can be found in SCORE Training. Watch this short video that shows step-by-step how to access the new e-learning module, 008 SCORE's Culture of Inclusion, and all of SCORE's Culture of Inclusion resources or check out the "How To" PDF
It is expected that all volunteers view this module by 3/31/18.

The 008 SCORE's Culture of Inclusion module will become a standard part of the annual SLATE and Code of Ethics commitment in the future. Additionally, over the coming months, our field leaders (Regional Vice Presidents, District Directors, and Chapter Chairs) will be going through workshops with an inclusion consultant and so that they can effectively lead our efforts in our local chapters.

With your help and attention, SCORE can become an even better engine for economic development in our local communities. It starts with each volunteer, and one volunteer at a time. Thank you in advance for your attention and efforts to make SCORE an even better organization.
