Dietrich College Student Charters Three Planes To Deliver Aid to Puerto Rico
In the wake of a hurricane that devastated Puerto Rico, CMU student and Puerto Rican native, Rosana Guernica, has chartered two planes and delivered roughly 3,500 pounds of supplies to the island.

For her upcoming third trip, Guernica will deliver 16,000 pounds of supplies and evacuate roughly 60 people needing medical attention.
Lost in Translation
Immigration and accurate media coverage have been trending points of discussion during the past year.

When the two recently became intertwined in a small western Pennsylvania suburb, the History Department's Emanuela Grama offered to reporters to do what was most needed: Listen.

Crucial Component to Mindfulness Meditation App Lowers Stress
For the millions of mindfulness meditation mobile app users, there is good news: New research shows that they can reduce the body's response to biological stress.

A CMU-led study found that acceptance, or learning how to be open and accepting of the way things are in each moment, is critical for the training's stress reduction effects.
 
Challenges to the Dream
What started as an annual writing contest encouraging students to express their personal struggles with race and discrimination is now an anthology featuring 91 pieces by 83 writers on topics ranging from racial and cultural stereotypes and school bullying to homophobia and identity questions.
 
Pieces by about 30 CMU alumni are included. 
Alumnus Named MacArthur Fellow
Cybersecurity expert Stefan Savage, who graduated in 1991 with a degree in applied history, is one of 24 winners of MacArthur Foundation Fellowships, often known as "genius grants," this year. He will receive $625,000 over the next five years.
 
Savage said his undergraduate studies, including cognitive psychology and computer science courses, prepared him well.
