The eighth annual Girls Night Out is coming to Gig Harbor's waterfront district on  November 9.  Awarded Outstanding Promotional Event by the Washington State Main Street Program, Girls Night Out presents an all-day opportunity for ladies to "Shop and Dine from 10 'til 9." While the Goodie Bags that are filled with fun trinkets, games and surprises, have sold out again this year, a coupon book with amazing deals is available throughout the event. Many of these deals last through the end of the holiday season. The Key Peninsula Civic Center announces its 10th Annual Winter Warm-up Holiday Crafts Fair at the Key Peninsula Civic Center, November 11 from 9am - 5pm. Over 60 booths of handmade crafts and art will fill the Civic Center. Come get an early start on your holiday shopping while being entertained with music from Vaughn Elementary Drums & Choir, the Bluegrass Minstrels, & the KPMS Jazz Band. Santa will make his arrival around 1 pm and free picture postcards will be taken by KP News staff. As always - food and treats will be available throughout the day. Don't miss this season-opener at the Key Peninsula Civic Center.

The ladies of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary are pulling on their aprons and getting out the sugar, spice, flour, chocolate, nuts, creams, raspberry, lemon, vanilla, cinnamon and more to create irresistible homemade sweets at their semi-annual bake sale. The sale is held in the cafeteria foyer on the lower level of St. Anthony Hospital., 8am-2pm.

This delightful comedy, which is adapted from the best-selling Young Adult book, is about the Herdman kids, six delinquent children engaged in misfit behavior who go to church for the first time for the free snacks. But, when they are cast in the Sunday school's Christmas play, mayhem and fun ensue as they tell the Christmas story in a non-conventional fashion. Performances begin November 17 through December 9.

Come run before the festivities begin and burn a few pounds. The trot begins at 8am facing east on the main road in front of the Gig Harbor post office (3118 Judson St), where you can drop off your cans of food and prepare for the race. Day-of Registration starts at 6:30am. You will also be able to pay and pick up t-shirts and bib numbers the day of the race (although we encourage everyone to pay ahead of time to make for a quick and less-chaotic process). This year, proceeds are going to FISH food bank, a local organization called Food Backpacks 4 Kids, the Bischoff food bank, and local high school scholarships.

Peninsula High School's Winterfest is a holiday arts and crafts show with 200 exhibitors with handcrafted items and gourmet foods. Visit the food fair that is operated by PHS student groups.  Funds raised from this event support after school clubs, athletics, assembly speakers, and ASB supplies and more.

Gig Harbor Literary Society

The Gig Harbor Literary Society is dedicated to exploring the literary world of historical fiction, nonfiction, and other works of interest. The November meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 7 at 6pm at the Harbor History Museum. The book for discussion is "The Whistling Season" by Ivan Doig, which  revisits the American West in the early twentieth century, bringing to life the eccentric individuals and idiosyncratic institutions that made it thrive.

The presentation "Diamonds in the Ether: Tuning In to Northwest Radio History" revisits the power of radio in the evergreen State then and now, November 15 at 6pm  downtown waterfront.

The Peninsula Community Chorus will be presenting their annual free Christmas concert "Let There Be Peace", on Sunday, December 3 at 3pm at the United Methodist Church, 7400 Pioneer Way. This will be the first concert welcoming the new director Staci Webb. Staci is a middle school choir teacher from Peninsula School District. She has 21 years experience working with choirs and PCC is so excited to have her directing!

The program includes "Going to Bethlehem", "Gloucestershire Wassail" and
"Patapan Fantasia", as well as traditional favorites such as, "Do You Hear What I Hear", and many others. The choice is dedicating this year's performance to a good friend and long time choir member Sally Wax, who passed away in May. Lunchbox Laboratory
As a thank you to the men and women who serve, all veterans eat free on Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11.  

The City of Gig Harbor's Visitor & Interpretive Center at the Skansie House is currently recruiting volunteer ambassadors for our welcome center. The center is run in partnership with Harbor WildWatch and is home to the Harbor WildWatch Laboratory too. Volunteer shifts consist of regularly scheduled weekly, monthly or on a fill in basis.
