Holidays and Celebrations: Fantasy to Reality, Planning for Life in the NOW (for PLwD)
Each year anniversaries, holidays, and celebrations happen. Each new event reminds us of our history and life stories, unless dementia is part of our life. Then suddenly, these events can feel very different and evoke very different feelings and reactions. This session will guide all involved in re-thinking the events and developing strategies and techniques that offer opportunities for pleasure, joy, and positive interactions.
Objectives:
- Discuss common stessors and negative feeling associated with holidays, anniversary dates, and large celebrations when dementia is part of the picture
- Compare the abilities and interests of person living with dementia and the historical event
- Modify the event, expectations, scope, and expectations in order to optimize positive impact and experiences during holidays and celebrations.
