Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes available in Schilling Hall
Help make someone's season bright by participating in Operation Christmas Child!
This initiative's signature shoeboxes, which are used to send children in need around the world a special present during the holidays, are available in Schilling Hall to any Wildcat that would like to help.
Campus clubs, groups of faculty, staff or students, or individuals are invited to take part in packing a shoebox with items like toys, school supplies and hygiene items for children. After each box is stuffed with goodies, they should be dropped off in front of the SGA office in the College Center no later than Nov. 20 at noon.

Professional pilot students enrolled in the Altitude Chamber course this semester got the opportunity to visit the
FAA Civil Aerospace Medical Institute in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Oct. 19. The group participated in hypoxia training, which allowed them to realize their own unique symptoms when they have lack of oxygen in the cockpit.

Kansas State Polytechnic adds new bachelor's degree in technology education
Kansas State Polytechnic is expanding its degree options with a new offering for individuals interested in teaching technology at the high school level.
A Bachelor of Science in secondary education with a technology education endorsement is being launched in fall 2018. The degree option is a collaboration with the university's
College of Education and is designed to help address state and national needs for STEM educators. Enrolled students will study mechanical, electronic and computer systems curriculum through Kansas State Polytechnic's engineering technology program while the education pedagogy will be supported by the College of Education.
To fulfill the technology content requirements, students will learn from Kansas State Polytechnic professors about such topics as basic electronics, computing principles, hardware and software fundamentals, machine design and manufacturing methods. Many of the courses include lab time and project-based assignments, so students will have a better understanding of the material and can use hands-on demonstrations in their own classrooms.
The secondary education curriculum will be taught through video conferencing by professors from the College of Education with plans to hire faculty members on the Polytechnic Campus as the degree grows. Students also will get the opportunity to teach at a local high school for one semester and will earn their official licensure upon completion of the bachelor's degree and passing of the state Praxis test.

Congratulations to Dr. Tara Harl for being selected as an ambassador to ACRP!
I would like to give Dr. Tara Harl,
associate professor and coordinator of the airport management degree, a high-five for her latest recognition within the aviation industry. She was selected recently as a 2017 ambassador of the Airport Cooperative Research Program, which is an organization that helps find solutions to workforce issues airport operators face. This honor represents Dr. Harl's highly respected reputation as an aviation expert and it will be another connection her students have with important members of industry. Congratulations, Dr. Harl!

Loan Repayment Option for Graduating Students
The state of Kansas is offering up to $15,000 in student loan repayment and up to a 5 year state tax waiver for graduates who establish residency in one of the 77 Kansas counties designated as a rural opportunity zone. For more information, visit the link below:
Employee Tuition Assistance and Spouse/Dependent Grant
1. Employee Tuition Assistance
Award amount is for tuition only in a K-State course for up to 3 credit hours per term.
The maximum award amount will not exceed the value of 3 hours at the in-state Manhattan/Salina tuition rate (ie. campus fees, other institutional fees, etc. are the responsibility of the employee).

Spouse/Dependent Grants (Only REGULAR employees are eligible. If you are unsure if you are REGULAR or TERM, check your contract or with the HR office.)
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled full time in a degree terminating undergraduate program, the award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 7 undergraduate course credits, where full-time for an undergraduate is defined as at least 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term.
For Spouses that are enrolled part-time in a degree terminating undergraduate program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 undergraduate course credits, where part-time for an undergraduate is defined as less than 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term. (Enrollment of less than 3 credit hours, will result in the proration of the award i.e. 2 credit hours enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 2 credit hours - or - 1 credit hour enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 1 credit hour. )
Dependents that are enrolled less than full-time in an undergraduate program are not eligible for the K-State Dependent/Spouse Grant.
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled in a degree terminating graduate or veterinary medicine program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 course credit hours as indicated by the student's degree program, graduate or veterinary medicine.
