These brief "classifieds" are intended to keep the members of the Diocese abreast of programs and activities in our parishes, share position openings throughout the Diocese, and to let others know if we have excess good/items they might be able to use. As in many "Classified Ads", articles should not exceed 150 words in length (total, and no graphics) and may be submitted to J.D. Lafrance ( [email protected] ) no later than Wednesday 10 a.m. each week for distribution via e-mail to the Diocese later that day. Text should be in the body of an email or in an attached Word document. Philadelphia is the city with the largest rate of imprisonment per capita and with the largest number of youth behind bars among the 15 largest cities in the USA. Why?  Poetry Presentations written by incarcerated friends and family denouncing the causes of crime and imprisonment and the sharing and expression of related sentiments on January 14, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Free Church of St. John Episcopal Church, 3076 Emerald Street, Philadelphia, PA 19134. This event is sponsored by LACEO and the NAACP at SCI Graterford, along with other organizations, and in the name of the Latino Lifers Family Coalition related to the issue of mass incarceration. Forums/Discussion Groups

Please join us for the  St. David's Episcopal Church ALPHA Course , starting  January 11, 2017 , and ending  March 22, 2017 . ALPHA is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. We will begin with dinner at 6:00 p.m., and at 7:00 p.m. there will be a video presentation by Nicky Gumbel designed to engage and inspire conversation. The video presentation will explore issues to be discussed in the remaining time at your table. Issues of faith and the essentials of Christianity will be the center of conversations. After the video, you will have a chance to share your thoughts and ideas on the Christian faith, and to journey more deeply with fellow Christians. Music

Start the New Year on a meditative, musical note with a  New Year's Eve Kirtan Service at 7:00 p.m. from Wellspring at  Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields . Kirtan is an ancient chant tradition, with prayers sung in a call-and-response style. An annual tradition at St. Martin's, Scott Robinson and his band,  Mandala , will lead this enchanting, participative devotion. No Registration Required. All are Welcome. Items Free/For Sale to Parishes

St. John's, Glen Mills has about 50 of these chairs for whomever wants them. They are comfortable armchairs great for a meeting room although a little faded otherwise in good condition. They were a gift to us by the Presbyterian Pension Fund. We are now replacing them with new and they are free. Contact Reverend John Sorensen, 610-389-9278.

Programs

Girls Friendly Society Mission Day 2017 will collect of much needed art supplies for Child Life Services at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. With a total of 1,195,000 children who come through the doors of CHOP annually (through admissions, ER visits and routine outpatient appointments) it is no wonder that art supplies are in constant need. GFS branches will be collecting art supplies for the Bedside Activity Patient packs. Beginning January 1, 2017, GFS chapters will be asked to solicit donations from their parishes for art supplies. The collection will continue through February 28, 2017. Please contact your GFS branch Advisor for a complete list of supplies needed. All items will be brought to the Mission Day Host church on March 4, 2017.
Music

Exciting local music is coming to Incarnation Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church . Starting in September, and running through the fall and winter months, IHS Drexel Hill will be hosting a Coffee House Open Mic and Concert Series. We'll bring in two local musicians to play longer sets and open the rest of the time up for members of the audience to share songs. Requests for Items

Holy Apostles and The Mediator is a beacon of hope in central West Philadelphia. HAM offers many services for the residents in our surrounding area including bi-weekly grocery distribution and youth programming. Another long-standing institution in HAM's neighborhood has now closed its doors and HAM is stepping in to fill the gap. The 52nd Street Library has closed indefinitely, leaving a void in the community. Especially impacted are our young, of whom many do not have an opportunity for reading enrichment. Beginning December 16th, HAM will be Collecting Books and Gently Used Clothing, with a special focus on children's books and clothing. On January 18, 2017, HAM'S MLK Day of Service volunteers will sort and catalogue collections for community distribution. Items will be accepted at HAM Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you have a donation but have no way to deliver it, or If you have an interest in volunteering please contact Janis Moore, MLK Day coordinator at [email protected] .

Christ Episcopal Church, Pottstown's "Second Chance' Thrift Shoppe is open with our fall/winter fashions and housewares. Our hours are Wednesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. SCTS serves our community with very affordable items, and if there is a verified financial need, vouchers are available through our clergy. We operate solely on the generous contributions from our parish family and friends. The income generated for our Church aids in emergency expenses and helps to purchase items that are needed for the church but not covered in the general budget. We are truly blessed to often receive some very "high end" household goods and "designer" clothing. Stop in to see us - we are sure you will be pleased and will perhaps find that "treasure" you are looking for.

The Administrative Assistant provides office support for multiple supervisors. Musicians

St. George St. Barnabas Episcopal Church seeks a Part-Time Organist - Choirmaster to play for our principal service on Sundays at 10 a.m., and Holy Days, using appropriate liturgical resources, to select music for our choirs and lead a weekly rehearsal. We are a family-size parish located in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood of West Philadelphia, SGSB's choirs sing a wide range of church music that includes sacred, contemporary gospel, and traditional gospel repertoire. The successful candidate must be proficient with the 1982 Hymnal, LEVAS II, improvise, and prepare preludes and postludes for worship services. Volunteers

Volunteers needed at the Cathedral Food Pantry .  Every Monday the 
Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral  Food Pantry distributes nourishing food to 150 households. We need help with food distribution on Mondays and help with receiving the food on alternate Wednesdays. Teachers

St. Paul's Elkins Park , a multicultural and inclusive Episcopal Church, is looking for Two Paid Sunday School Teachers to teach two classes - Ages 5 to 10 and ages 11 to 15.
