NOVEMBER 2017
Greetings!

The last month has been full of contrasts for the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities:

GRANT SUPPORT
Our organization was grateful to receive generous grant support from the Jackson Foundation, Alexander Lebenstein Fund for Tolerance and Human Rights of the Richmond Jewish Foundation, Herbert J. and Ruth B. Rubel Holocaust Education Fund of the Richmond Jewish Foundation, and a special gift from Wells Fargo that was presented at the Richmond Humanitarian Awards Dinner:

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
We also conducted the Prejudice Awareness Summit for Richmond-area middle school students, a Diversity Dialogue Day forum for Peninsula high school students, and we launched a new community dialogue program called "RVA Table Talk."

RAPID-RESPONSE SERVICES
At the same time, we continue to be overwhelmed by demand for VCIC's programs and services, especially after incidents of bias, bullying, and discrimination.  It is clear that schools, businesses, and communities view our organization as a go-to resource to help them learn and heal.  Our work over the coming months will be to enhance our proactive efforts to get ahead of these painful and divisive incidents.

STAY IN TOUCH
This update includes details about upcoming VCIC programs, as well as many local and national resources.  Please let us know how VCIC can partner with you.   Contact our office by phone at (804) 515-7950 or by emailing  Jessica Hawthorne  (Director of Programs) or  Marcos Martinez  (Educational Programs Coordinator).

We look forward to working with you!
Commonwealth Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

In the aftermath of the tragedy in Charlottesville in August, Governor McAuliffe established the Commonwealth Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.  VCIC is proud to be represented on this body by State Board Chair Chavis Harris, Richmond Chapter member Mona Hafeez Siddiqui, and President & CEO Jonathan Zur, along with 3 past Humanitarian Award recipients and several partners.

Building a Just Richmond

VCIC joins with a coalition of community partners to convene the "Building a Just Richmond" forum on November 5 from 1:30pm - 4:30pm at the VCU Academic Learning Commons.  The program will include speakers and breakout workshops.
