SBHC's 2013-14 Digital Census Report

    
The School Based Health Alliance just released their 2013-2014 Digital Census Report. An estimated 82.1% of all SBHC's participated in the census survey. Here are some key findings from the report:

  • The number of SBHCs nationally grew 20% since the 2010-11 Census of SBHCs, with 385 new centers recognized in their database.
  • 77.6% of SBHCs serve schools that are Title I. 76.5% of SBHCS are located in schools where more than 50% of students were eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
  • 67.2% of SBHCs are staffed by a primary care provider and a behavioral health provider. During the 2010-2011 school year 37.4% of the SBHCs reporting had an expanded care team (experts in nutrition, health education, social services, oral health, and/or vision care). The number of schools with an expanded care team rose to 50.6% during the 2013-2014 school year.

SBHA has also released   The Children's Health and Education Mapping Tool. According to SBHA, "
This tool is a resource for those seeking to address the chronic inequities that persist among low-income children and adolescents in health care access and utilization." Join the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools for a webinar on January 26th on utilizing their new resource tool, Partner Build Grow. Partner Build Grow uses a four-pronged approach based on best practices to be used as a tool to assist community coalitions in advancing and sustaining school-based child development and behavioral health objectives. The webinar, Sustaining School-Community Approaches, will highlight communities that are successfully implementing such approaches and programming.
