GPRA Thanksgiving Match Update 10/ 31/2017
Dear Great Pyrenees Friends,
As our Thanksgiving campaign to raise $37,500 continues, which will be 100% matched, we will share a few stories about some of the incredible people and resilient PYRS that have come through our rescue this year.  Today's story is about Zoey. Please help us reach our goal of providing for the rescue of 50 PYRS. Click here to donate.  Thank you.

Zoey's Story  - From Laura, her new forever Mom

Early this year, my two children, then 16 and 14, and I were devastated to learn that one of our dogs, a sweet, yet fiercely protective flat-coated retriever named Maggie, had pancreatic cancer. Those that have pets understand just how gut wrenching the loss of a pet is.

A couple of months later I did a search on Great Pyrenees rescues in Georgia. My search turned up Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta, with a photo of the saddest, broken little girl named Zoey F. Right then, I knew she belonged with us.

Zoey had apparently been hit by a car and her rear right leg was broken as was her left hip. What's worse, the owners waited a week to take her to a vet. The vet told the owners approximately how much it would cost to make her whole again. The owners could not afford the cost, and to their credit, rather than putting this seven month old puppy down, they surrendered her to GPRA.

Within 24 hours, GPRA had her with their trusted surgeon. Immediately afterwards, a wonderful foster took her in during her recovery, and showed this puppy how to be happy and playful, even though she was still recovering from her surgeries, and walking was restricted.

That's where we came into the story. We were approved to foster Zoey, and to see her through the rest of her recovery, which would include rehabilitation at least twice a week for the next couple of months, and periodic check-ins with the surgeon.

It has been seven months since Zoey came into our lives. Since then, she has fully recovered, she runs more than she walks, her fur has grown in to be thick and snow white, and she is always, I mean always, happy. Zoey is still afraid of going down our steps (yes, I carry her), and is still anxious in crowds. But this little girl, all 47 pounds of her!, lights up our days. She is absolutely "pyrfect!"
