Kansas Public Policy Forum Focus - Fix the Budget

Yesterday's Kansas Public Policy Forum, hosted by UCS, Kansas Action for Children and United Way of Greater Kansas City brought together 18 state policymakers from Johnson and Wyandotte counties to discuss key issues impacting many in our community and around the state.  It was a full house including private and public health and human service providers, funders, community advocates, and local residents.

The event featured a panel of experienced legislators including Senators Pat Pettey and Barbara Bollier, Representatives Melissa Rooker and Kathy Wolfe Moore, and advocacy organization leaders.

During the forum, Duane Goossen of Kansas Center for Economic Growth, Sheldon Weisgrau of Health Reform Resource Project, and Annie McKay of Kansas Action for Children discussed budget and tax issues facing Kansas; needed KanCare policy changes and expansion; and repairing and expanding access to safety net programs.  Presenters and panelists alike agreed fixing the state's budget crisis is a crucial component to addressing current health and human service issues.  A summary of the Kansas Public Policy Forum and copy of the presentation materials will be available on UCS' website soon.
