Adult Education Series:
Susan Sprake is presenting a series on the Secrets of the Sistine Chapel - Michelangelo's contribution to the reformation. The Prophets, people, and symbols he chose to paint were greatly influenced by his long association with the Jewish community in Florence.  The order of the ceiling itself is a representation of the mystical reaches of the Kabbala. Throughout the ceiling are reformation messages and some down-right insults to the Popes.  Please join me while we view some of the most beautiful works by Michelangelo and delve deeper into their meaning. Sundays 9:30am in Sherrill Hall.

Evensong coming up next month:
Evensong with pre-Christmas Carols followed by mulled wine and mince pies at 6 pm on Sunday 18 December.
Trinity Tidbits--3rd Sunday of Advent

TOTH logo
December is a busy time for many of us. Some of that busy-ness is, well, just busy-ness.
But here at TOTH, we are busy doing the Lord's work. The budgeting process for 2017 is underway, and we are discerning how we will best use our resources. We are still awaiting all of our pledge cards to be returned so we can have a better sense of our 2017 financial position. Please get them to the office as soon as you are able.
We have several special opportunities to worship this month, and I'd like to highlight 'Flowing'. This Sunday the 11th, beginning with a seasonal snack reception at 6:30, we will gather together in song and prayer to ask for the inspiration and illumination of the Holy Spirit. This would be a great way to find some peace in the midst of a busy time.
Keep a keen eye on your email and pay close attention to the announcements in the bulletin. I'd hate for you to miss out on the wonderful things happening at TOTH.
     Peace,
     Chris
Mark your calendars!

Seasonal Giving Opportunities
Holiday Baskets - We are asking for monetary contributions to this fund which is used to provide financial help (in the form of Smith's Gift Cards) for the less fortunate in our own parish family and outside the church. To help with this effort, please make checks out to TOTH, earmark them "Holiday Baskets" and drop them in the collection plate from today through December 18.

Poinsettias may be dedicated to loved ones. The Poinsettias decorating the altar at Christmas will be purchased with your gifts. Your dedication in memory or in honor of a loved one will be included on a list in the Christmas bulletins.

Mitten Tree
The mitten tree is up. Please bring "decorations" for it!  Ornaments would be mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, or slippers. They can be home made or bought and can be all sizes! The items will be blessed at the Epiphany service on January 6 and then shipped to our brothers and sisters in the Episcopal Church in Navajoland, one of our companion dioceses. They will be well used by these people as they often endure harsh winters. Thanks for your generosity!

Year A -- Third Sunday of Advent
ToTH 2016 Children's Christmas Musical Rehearsals
Rehearsals for the 2016 ToTH Christmas Musical continue on Sunday afternoons  until Christmas. In addition there will be a couple of mid-week rehearsals later in December. Auditions for speaking parts in the Christmas Musical will take place on Saturday during the Bazaar- please come along to the Choir room prepared to read some lines and sing one of the songs.
This year we will perform (DV) "Archangel Gabriel's Awesome Adventure", based on the Luke Gospel account, at the 5 pm Christmas Eve (12/24/16) Family Eucharist. All young people from K-9 are invited to take part. Rehearsal CDs will be given out at the first few Sunday practices. Each Sunday rehearsal will include a real fruit snack break (no gluten or milk products) at about 4 pm and end with supper at 5 pm (or 4:40 pm on 12/18). Pick up will be 20 minutes after this.
We need more kids.
There are
chorus parts
(shepherds, sheep, angels, townsfolk) and several
solo roles
(shepherds, Mary, Joseph, Archangel Gabriel et al.) for which
auditions will be held on the morning of the Christmas Bazaar.

Rehearsal schedule:
Sunday December 11: 3 pm to 5 pm
Tuesday December 13: 5 pm to 6:30 pm (if we need it- keep time free) Sunday December 18: 3 pm to 4:40 pm
Tuesday December 20: 5 pm to 6:30 pm, dress and tech rehearsal. Saturday December 24: 10 to 11:30 am, dress rehearsal; 4 pm warm up for 5 pm service and performance.

Please contact John Singleton if you need further information.
Lower Parking Lot at a Stopping Point
The Lower Parking Lot is done for now. Please note that the new cement pads outside the entrances to the Old Parish Hall have a plastic grate over their drains-material that is non-corrosive when salt is used. These plastic grates will NOT take the weight of a vehicle driving over them, so please do not try to drive up to either doorway. The resealing near the entrance is postponed until warmer weather allows the removal of an old tree root system under the pavement that was just left there when the lot was built.
Next Smith's Bucks order is due Tuesday Dec. 13th by Noon

TOTH ELDERS NEXT MEET IN JANUARY
Our next meeting will be Monday, January 23, 2017,
at 10am in Sherrill Hall.
The presenter will be Carol Gabaldon on the topic
The Ministry of Presence.
The Group will explore what scriptures say about presence; what has changed in relating to one another in the age of email and texting; and what is the gift of technology. Time will be taken to reflect on personal experience with "being present." There will be a short business meeting at the end of the presentation.
