Chris Deleon, who has worked in Maryville's dietary department for more than 12 years, is our December 2016 Employee of the Month. Nutrition Services Director Liz Fochtman says Chris received the honor for many reasons. Among the most important: his ability to get along well with others and always being on time for all of his scheduled shifts.
Chris was born in Hermiston, Oregon. When Chris was in high school, his family moved to Aloha, Oregon.
A graduate of Century High School in Hillsboro, Chris first worked in food services as a busboy in a local restaurant. He joined Maryville in September 2004 as a part-time dishwasher. Over the years, he has taken on roles as diverse as serving in the dining room and scrubbing pots and pans.
Today, as a member of the full-time team on the morning shift, he carefully helps assemble resident meal trays and delivers food carts across Maryville.
When asked about what he likes about working at Maryville, he says, "I like working with a good team - a group of people I get along with." Colleagues say Chris is quiet and dedicated to his work serving Maryville residents but always has time for a smile.
When he is not working, Chris likes to "work out at the gym, watch shows on Netflix and spend time with my family." His parents are originally from the Philippines and Chris likes to travel there with his family. When asked about his own favorite foods, he replied: "Chicken! Fried Chicken!"
Chris said he was surprised to hear his name called at the "Employee of the Month" announcement ceremony. He added that he was excited to be chosen for the honor and especially excited about the special parking spot that comes
with being named "Employee of the Month."
