DID YOU KNOW?

The  National Safety Council has designated November as the month for flu shot reminders.

The Centers for Disease Control have identified the flu shot as the best way to keep from getting the flu.  On its web page it says, "Y ou may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. Although people with the flu are most contagious in the first three to four days after their illness begins,  some otherwise healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning one day  before  symptoms develop and  five to seven days  after  becoming sick. Some people, especially young children and people with weakened immune systems, might be able to infect others with flu viruses for an even longer period of time."

Emergency Response Plans
Congratulations on entering your plans to the New York State Police using the State Education Business Portal. The next time we meet, we will compare our experiences. Now that your plans are completed, approved by the Board of Education, and entered into the portal, there is one more step that has to take place. The SAVE Legislation requires submitting your plans to your local law enforcement in addition to using the portal to submit your plans to the NYS Police within 30 days of adoption and no later than October 15 each year.
ERT Training Curriculum
Your emergency plans are completed and entered into the portal, and you have your evacuation and lock down drills scheduled. How have you trained your emergency response team members?  Does everyone understand Incident Command Systems (ICS) and what role they would play in a real event?

Our department's new curriculum can help assist you in this, with our basic eight-session program. The first two sessions focus on Incident Command roles and responsibilities. Each session includes a discussion exercise to help participants learn the functions of ICS in schools. There are several optional advanced topic sessions that can be presented to seasoned teams at additional training times.

Contact us today at cbraden@pnwboces or 914-248-3692 to request more information or to schedule a session.
