Dickson County Photography Contest
 
Do you have an "eye" for photography?  Got some shots you've been saving of Dickson County?  Well, the wait is over!  The Dickson County Chamber of Commerce is now having a community photo contest and is accepting photographs of Dickson County for our website and other printed marketing material.  This contest is designed to showcase our county at its best to entice interest and attract new residents and visitors to the area.  This contest is free and open to picture takers of all ages and will run through December 31, 2016.

Photographers may submit original high-quality photos in digital format of all things Dickson County - housing, leisure, family fun, education, economic growth/development, tourism and more!  Photographs with people are permitted.  All photos must be high-resolution quality (300 x 300 dpi minimum).  They must be submitted digitally to the chamber (jpg, jif or tif format) and all submitted photos will become photo rights of the Dickson County Chamber.  

Cash prizes will be awarded to three winners in the amounts of $50, $100, and $200 with the top prize winner being featured on the front page of the chamber's website.  Prize payouts subject to a minimum of 25 entries submitted.  The photographer will receive photo credit on the website.

Holiday Open House

The annual chamber holiday open house will be Tuesday, December 13 at the chamber office from 4:00 p.m. to  6:00 p.m.   (No RSVP's are required.)  Please put this event on your holiday calendars now.

Chamber Office Closures

The chamber office will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2016 and  Monday, December 26, 2016 in observance of Christmas and on Monday,  January 2, 2017 in observance of New Year's Day.



 
2017 Farmers Market Boot Camps
 
Join us once again for Farmers Market Boot Camps. This year, sessions will include:
  • Making the Most of Your Vegetable Crops for Market
  • Challenges and Opportunities in the Production and Marketing of Fruit and Nut Crops
  • Recordkeeping Tools for Small Fruit and Vegetable Farms
  • Using Your Records to Develop Enterprise Budgets
  • Tennessee Department of Agriculture Fees and Permits Update
Speakers will include Dr. Dave Lockwood, Dr. Annette Wszelaki, Dr. Margarita Velandia, Mr. Mike Brown and Mr. Hal Pepper.
This workshop will be offered in six locations from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm local time.
  • January 24, 2017 - Dickson
  • January 25, 2017 - Dyersburg
  • January 26, 2017 - Bolivar
  • January 31, 2017 - Cookeville
  • February 1, 2017 - Chattanooga
  • February 2, 2017 - Knoxville

These workshops fulfill a TAEP educational requirement in ONLY the following Producer Diversification sectors: Fruits and Vegetables and Value-Added.

Finalist for Glenn Shepard Leadership Award
 
The Dickson County Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Wendy Egil, General Manager of Martin Brower for receiving a Certificate of Recognition. Wendy is one of only ten finalists selected out of 1,936 submissions from 43 states and 6 countries to receive the Glenn Shepard Leadership Award. 
 
For 35 years, Glenn Shepard has studied, practiced, and taught management and leadership skills. Each year, his company recognizes the top ten  finalist that portray the strongest leadership and role model skills in their business community (pictured: Wendy Egli, GM and Ealon Matheny of Martin Brower).

Bright Steps Occupational Therapy, PLLC is now serving children of all ages in their natural environment (home, daycare, etc).   The mission of Bright Steps is to deliver a comprehensive occupational therapy service to children with exclusive needs, empowering them to their reach their full potential, greatest independence and highest quality of life.   Depending on the specific needs of your child, therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes, two times weekly in the beginning. Intervention should look and feel like PLAY to your child, while they work towards brilliant advancement. Contact Elizabeth S. Pulliam, MS OTR/L for a free, 15 minute screening! If she finds that the service she delivered will be of benefit to your child, the next step is to schedule is to conduct an evaluation. From there, a treatment plan will be created according to the wishes that you and your child have towards the best quality of life. OT is sustainable, transferable and something that Elizabeth ensure parents have the support to follow through on with their child. S ervices are currently mobile and private pay. Bright Steps will make every effort to work on the caregiver's preferred schedule Mondays through Fridays.
