Team MOA Serves Holiday Hope in Lansing

The Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) once again provided volunteers for the Magic Johnson Holiday Hope program. Families in Detroit, Flint and Lansing, MI, were able to receive food, clothes and toys as part of an annual Thanksgiving outreach. "Team MOA" volunteered in the Lansing effort and was led by MOA President Dr. Bruce Wolf. The blustery weather didn't dampen the mood as six teams of volunteers greeted families and loaded cars. Magic Johnson was not the only Spartan legend in attendance as Magic's former teammate, and current Piston announcer, Gregory Kelser played point guard for Team MOA loading cars with the same intensity he displayed during his playing days.

More than 800 families were served as cars lined up for holiday supplies and a chance to get a smile and wave from Magic.
"This is really great to see the community come together and support what we're trying to do, which is help families have a happy Thanksgiving and those kids to have a great Christmas," says Johnson.

Hopefully, the event brightened the holidays for many residents and the volunteers that were able to serve them. And while Team MOA was proud to have played a part, we urge others to donate to the Magic Johnson Foundation with the link below.

Holiday Season Traditions: AMOA Tree of Peace

The holiday season is a time when we pause to celebrate life and family, and honor our friends and loved ones.  In keeping with this spirit, the Advocates for the Michigan Osteopathic Association are once again presenting a very special opportunity to remember that special person while supporting the programs of the Advocates.

The Tree of Peace will be displayed in the lobby of the MOA building for the month of December in Okemos.  With your support, it will glow brilliantly throughout the holiday with all dedications being listed in the Book of Honor displayed next to the Tree of Peace.

There are three ways to give-
  • A Shining Light:  For a $10.00 minimum donation, a Light is dedicated in Memory of Honor of your loved one.
  • A Keepsake Ornament:  For a $40.00 minimum donation, a Keepsake Ornament will be placed on the Tree.
  • A Tree of Peace Sponsorship:  For a $100.00 minimum donation, a Keepsake Ornament will be placed on the Tree plus you will receive that Keepsake Ornament when the tree is taken down in January.
All proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit our ongoing projects in support of the Osteopathic Profession.  One such project, the Distracted Driving Simulator, continues to gain attention, and we are reaching out across the state to interested hospitals, service organizations and schools.
