REPLACES NAILS, STRUCTURALLY RATED.
When it comes to connecting hangers into wood, the practice of replacing nails with screws is widely gaining acceptance. MiTek LumberLok screws are specifically designed as an acceptable substitute for many common MiTek USP Connectors.  The unique shank design allows both #9 x 1-3/8" and #9 x 2-7/8"

LumberLok screws to obtain shear values in a connector that are comparable and superior to the nails they are intended to replace. In this way, our single 0.162"diameter LumberLok (LL) series  covers the loads required  for the corresponding 1 ½" and full-length versions of 8d, 10d, and 16d nails used in our hangers.
Compare the LumberLok to other size fasteners.
Developed and tested to meet high load requirements.
Designed specifically for attaching wood connectors.

The chart on the right compares the shear values of the fasteners (in lbs.) when installing a metal hanger into wood. These "Steel to Wood" values get larger when the thickness of the steel in the hanger increases from 18 ga to 16 ga.

Our LumberLok LL915 and  LL930 have a shank diameter of 0.162" in the  portion underneath the head which is in the shear plane of the connector and the wood. That 0.162" shank is what allows us to obtain the higher values in shear with metal connectors attached to
wood and compares very favorably
to the 16d Common nail.
* Easy driving - Self-tapping.
* Torx #20 head to eliminate stripping.

1) GC = Gold Coat over Clear Zinc Trivalent.
2) Allowable shear loads assume a side plate tensile strength of 45 ksi.
3) Withdrawal loads for steel-to-wood connections assume a side plate thickness of 1/4" or less.
4) Shear loads for wood-to-wood connections assume a side member thickness of 1-1/2".
5) Loads are for 100% duration of load factors and may be increased for other duration factors in accordance with the NDS.
