Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie To Retire in 2018
Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie has
announced his plans to retire effective September 30, 2018.

Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie  has announced that he will retire from his position, effective September 30, 2018. Leslie made the announcement during the regular October meeting of the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees. Leslie has served as chancellor since November 2006, making him the longest serving chancellor in the district's history.
In total, Leslie has served 34 years as a community college president or chancellor and 42 years as an educator.

In his email to Alamo Colleges District employees, Leslie thanked the Board, the faculty, administrators and staff of the Alamo Colleges District and its five colleges-San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College and Northeast Lakeview College. He also thanked elected officials and community members for the support of the District and the colleges during his tenure. He especially thanked his wife, Cheryl, and his children and grandchildren for their support and sacrifice during his career and expressed his desire to spend more time with them after his retirement.

Four Alamo Colleges District Colleges Named to List of Those Eligible for $1 Million 2019 Aspen Prize 
Four of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District have been named to the list of 150 community colleges in the U.S. eligible to compete for the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.


For the first time, f our of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District have been named to the list of 150 community colleges in the U.S. eligible to compete for the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation's signature recognition of high achievement and performance in America's community colleges. The four colleges, Alamo Colleges District - San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College and Northwest Vista College, were selected from a pool of nearly 1,000 public two-year colleges nationwide to compete for the $1 million Aspen Prize.

Awarded every two years since 2011, the Aspen Prize recognizes institutions with outstanding achievements in four areas: learning; certificate and degree completion; employment and earnings; and high levels of access and success for minority and low-income students. 

The four Alamo Colleges District colleges will move forward to the next round of the competition for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence by submitting an application to be reviewed through a rigorous evaluation for a spot on the top ten Aspen Prize finalists list. Top ten finalists will be named in May 2018. The Aspen Institute will then conduct site visits to each of the finalists and collect additional data. A distinguished Prize Jury will select a grand prize winner, finalist(s) with distinction, and rising star(s) in spring 2019.

12,759 degrees and certificates for FY2017.

Alamo Colleges District Sets New Record for Degrees and Certificates Awarded in FY2017

The Alamo Colleges District and its five colleges-San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College and Northeast Lakeview College have achieved yet another success in their efforts to increase student completion, awarding 12,759 degrees and certificates to students in FY2017! This represents a 224% increase over FY2006, a 22.8% increase over the 12,009 awarded in FY2016. It also represents an all-time record for the Alamo Colleges District.

This achievement also reflects a substantial 117.9% increase in degrees and certificates awarded by the Alamo Colleges District from FY2011 to FY2016, compared to a peer group average of 59% for the same time period.
