ACSRC Report: Municipal Governance Reform and Land-use Planning in Alberta

This report identifies potential issues and gaps within Alberta's current land-use governance structure that could impact achieving the priorities outlined in the Land-use Framework and the implementation of the 7 regional plans. Two perspectives on the LUF and municipalities are also identified. 


BOOM AND BUST LAUNCHED!

Dr. Lars Hallstrom was joined by Dr. Kevin Jones, Dr. Kristoff Van Assche and Dr. Monica Gruezmacher on Dec 2nd to launch their new book "Boom and Bust: Managing the ups and downs in communities. A Guide."  The event was well attended with attendees representing not for profit organizations, municipalities, counties, the academic community and students. The Citizen Engagement Toolkit

The Citizen Engagement Toolkit is a helpful and practical kit complete with advice and tools to support effective citizen engagement. Citizen engagement provides municipalities a means to incorporate citizen values, interests, needs and desires into their decision-making processes and decisions. It improves municipal decision-making by bringing all perspectives to the table.

AGRICULTURE IN ALBERTA: Teacher Kit

This booklet will provide reference to basic information about agriculture in Alberta, including information about commonly produced foods in Alberta. There are thousands of other agricultural products not listed here that are produced in Alberta.

The Agricultural Institute of Canada's 2017 Conference will be held from  April 24-26, 2017 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Two postdoctoral fellows are being recruited for this MITACS-funded project. The ideal candidates will have a relevant Ph.D. in a social science discipline, such as Sociology or Geography, with training in qualitative and quantitative research methods and analyses.

Rural communities thrive with an active and robust volunteer base.  Volunteer Alberta is a great resource.  They keep their finger on the pulse of volunteer trends in Alberta and across the country. Two strong trends they have noticed over the past couple years are skilled volunteerism and student involvement. To read more on how to tap into these resource, see the link below.
Canada's Volunteer Awards recognize the contributions of volunteers, businesses and innovative not-for-profit organizations in improving the well-being of people and communities.  The fifth call for nominations for the Canada's Volunteer Awards is now open. The deadline for the submission of nominations is February 3, 2017.














RURAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE: 101 Ideas for Innovation and Entrepreneurship 
The 101 Ideas for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a research project  designed to collect and share stories of  innovators and entrepreneurs from rural  communities across Canada.
