MEMBER BENEFIT OF THE MONTH:

Immediate benefits to you, the Builder Member:

1.) Reduced premium costs to the builder. In most case we can show the builder a 20-30% savings in
premium costs. It is estimated that since 2010, the program has saved participating Builders over
$200,000 in combined insurance premiums.

2.) This program is exclusive to HBA Builder Members. That means it provides a great Membership
recruiting tool for prospective builders. This program only enhances the coverage available
exclusively to our Members just like the Homebuilders SIF (Workers Compensation Insurance
Program).

3.) The LHBA and your local HBA Chapter realize non-dues revenue from this program. In fact, since 2010 the program has generated in excess of $ 50,000 in revenue for the LHBA, and over $ 5,000 to local
State HBA Chapters.

This program is just another valuable program designed for you the Builder Member, to benefit from your membership in the Louisiana Home Builders Association. The program can be accessed through your current agent if they are appointed to represent the program. We currently have over 50 agencies appointed in the State. Call to see if this program is right for you, contact us today.
Thank You and we look forward to hearing from you.

Jobsite inspections are a key component of any safety and health program. The responsibility of identifying and correcting hazards extends to every supervisor and worker at the company.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employers to conduct regular, day-to-day inspections of their jobsites, materials and equipment. The consequences of not having safety procedures in place could potentially result in serious injury or even death. It could also lead to thousands of dollars in fines and increased insurance costs.

LHBA Legislative Wins in 2016

As the year comes to a close, here is a look back at this year's legislative victories for LHBA.

2016 was a record breaking year for the number of legislative days in session.  There was not only a lengthy regular session but also two special sessions.  The special sessions dealt only with fiscal matters including tax measures and supplements to the budget.

The regular session was successful with a number of consequential bills defeated.  Attacks on minimum wage, equal pay expansion, and an increase on business penalties did not pass. Legislation that allowed unlevel playing fields in the code and the weakening of current scrap copper laws also fell flat.

On the offensive front, several bills passed that helped the construction industry.  Regulations were lifted on small potable water boilers and the sunset date for the scrap metal law was removed. This repeal makes the waiting period and the cash thresholds for copper sales permanent law.

The special sessions primarily focused on revenue raising tax bills.   As most are aware, the additional penny on sales tax passed in the first special session.  This penny tax does expire in June of 2018.

The second special session had more negative encounters on business taxes and income taxes.  Bills that decreased itemized deductions for mortgage interest and property taxes all failed.  Legislation that drastically changed business tax credits and exemptions were unsuccessful as well.

Although many measures were defeated by the legislature, changes were made regarding the inventory tax credit and the capital gains deduction. Please consult your tax professional on possible tax changes regarding your business.

BUILD-PAC'S NEW "FAIR SHARE" PROGRAM

BUILD-PAC's new Fair Share campaign is the easiest way to get involved in the political process. We are asking every member to do their Fair Share for the housing industry by contributing just $25 to BUILD-PAC during the 2015-2016 election cycle.

What would happen if every NAHB member did their Fair Share?
If every member does their Fair Share and invests a minimum of $25, then BUILD-PAC will be a $3.5 Million PAC. This would allow BUILD-PAC and housing to have an even greater impact in the 2016 elections.

What is my Fair Share going toward?
Your contribution helps elect pro-housing, pro-business candidates who will support our issues and fight for housing in Congress.

How can I help with the Fair Share campaign?
Please help your state meet its goal. During your state and local meetings back home, ask your peers to do their Fair Share for housing by contributing just $25 to BUILD-PAC in this election cycle. If every member does their Fair Share, then BUILD-PAC's voice will be LOUDER and STRONGER than ever before.
