Greetings, 
I attended, for the first time, the third annual Wicihitowin Aboriginal Engagement Conference in Saskatoon October 11-12. It was organized by the United Way of Saskatoon and there were more than 500 delegates. The conference theme was Leadership in Reconcili-ACTION and it was a transformative experience for me. I gained a greater understanding of what reconciliation means and that Saskatchewan (and Canada) is in the nascent stages of beginning a journey of healing and building a relationship of mutual respect and trust. Many interesting speakers made engaging points and all conference sessions were tied to a specific national Truth and Reconciliation Committee Call(s) to Action.

I had two takeaways from attending the conference. The first was to have your own personal call(s) to action. They can be as large or small in scope as you feel. The second was to try and learn to be comfortable with having uncomfortable conversations about reconciliation with Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) and non-Indigenous people in your workplace, home, and socially. The next Wicihitowin Conference is scheduled for October 17-18, 2018 at TCU Place in Saskatoon. Registration was reasonably priced (early bird rate was $150.00) and included a hearty breakfast and lunch on both days. I highly recommend attending the conference next year!

Ruth Barker was presented the award at a South East Regional Library staff workshop on September 25, 2017. Michael Shires and Judy Nicholson attended to present the award and to provide a brief presentation to the staff about SLA, the benefits of membership, and a tour of the resources available on the website. SLA Honourary Life Membership
Audrey Mark was selected as the Honourary Life Membership recipient for her contributions to SLA over the years as a member of the association. Read more about Audrey and her contributions, and her letter of thanks.
Call for Nominee as CFLA-FCAB Prairie Province Representative
The Federation's Nominations Committee (NC) is currently seeking the SLA nomination for the 2018 CFLA-FCAB Board of Directors. The Federation's Board of Directors will be elected by the Members at the annual general meeting (AGM) on January 31, 2018. The nominee is eligible to stand for election on January 31, 2018 to begin a 2 year term as a Director of the Corporation. Read the Call
Eligibility:
According to SLA's Terms of Reference [see website] to be eligible the nominee needs to:
- be an individual member in good standing in SLA;
- have significant knowledge of the work and issues related to SLA
- meet the nomination criteria as set out in Article 32 of CFLA-FCAB bylaws
- be available for all CFLA-FCAB board meetings and possibly some ad hoc committee meetings
- be able to provide reports as required on a regular basis
- be available for SLA and MLA AGMs
To be nominated please submit the following Nomination Form (both sides) and forward to the SLA Executive Director no later than November 17, 2017. You will be notified within the week if you name has been endorsed by the Board of Directors Selection committee.

In 2018 the Saskatchewan Libraries Conference is being held at the Double Tree by Hilton in Regina Saskatchewan on Thursday May 3rd and Friday May 4th as part of a week-long convergence of national library leaders:
- Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) Members Meeting - May 1st
- Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC) Meeting - May 1st
- Canadian Federation of Library Associations/ Fédération canadienne des associations de bibliothéques (CFLA-FCAB) National Forum - May 2nd
- SLA Conference - May 3rd and 4th
The theme, Libraries! Convergence Under Living Skies speaks to the opportunity for libraries of all types and from many places to work together.
SLA along with all provincial, territorial, and regional library associations are members of CFLA-FCAB.

Professional career and activities:
I'm a clinical health sciences librarian. Most of my day-to-day work involves helping medical professionals and researchers find the information they need to do their job. From pointing people to the right book or website, to creating a complex and thorough MEDLINE literature search, our aims in the library are to save our users' time so they can focus on what matters most: the patient.We also conduct outreach, education, and manage a collection (now mostly online) of helpful resources and reference material for use by medical practitioners and students. Working in healthcare is a rewarding experience, and I'm proud to be part of a great team of librarians and technicians who recognize the value of our work.Read more
Jack Ma has been appointed to the position of Accountability & Assessment Officer at Provincial Library and Literacy Office in Regina.
Regan Gunningham will assume the role of Administrator of the Multitype Database Licensing Program and also continue in the position of Secretariat to the Multitype Library Board.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
