Tomorrow we celebrate the Winter Solstice and the anticipation of longer days and more daylight. Many of us will observe Hanukkah, Christmas or Kwanzaa this coming weekend as well. Whatever your reason to celebrate, I hope you can enjoy it with family and friends. I wish each of you a wonderful Holiday Season!

"Unknown Fabergé" at the Museum of Russian Art

Join us for a look at a rich array of objects produced by the Fabergé jewelry firm in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The exhibition reveals the art of Fabergé, a leading supplier to the Russian court, through more than 80 beautifully crafted pieces, many of them previously unknown. Docent Ruth Ann Benson will be our guide. You're welcome to invite guests! Admission is free for TMORA members, $8 for seniors (65+) and $10 for adults.

A Movie and Dinner

Join MCC members for a dutch-treat mid-week movie and dinner! We'll be seeing "Lion," which is opening at the Edina Theater on Christmas Day. Starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara, the movie is about a 5-year-old Indian boy who gets lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometers from home. He survives many challenges before being adopted by a couple in Australia. Twenty-five years later, he sets out to find his lost family. The movie begins at 4:00 p.m., and will be followed by dinner around 6:30 p.m. at Arezzo Ristorante, 5057 France Ave. S. Members and guests are welcome to join us for the movie, dinner or both.

Men's Coffee and Conversation

It's caffeine and camaraderie for the male members of MCC and guests! This group meets every other Thursday and is hosted by various members who get the conversation going. Please register by the Monday prior to Men's Coffee and Conversation. Along with guest John Derus, MCC member Bill Fox will lead a conversation about early Minneapolis development.

New Year's Eve Dinner

MN Public Policy: Water vs. Mining in Northern Minnesota 
Thursday, January 5, 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Join us as Rep. Paul Thissen talks about the competing views of environmentalists and labor on the proposed PolyMet mining NorthMet project in northeastern Minnesota. Thissen led the DFL Caucus for six years and navigated the competing interests during that period. Thissen has represented Minneapolis district 61B since 2002. He was speaker of the House starting in 2013 and more recently Minority Leader for the House DFL Caucus.

News from Members

MCC member Bud Hayden wants to know if you'd like to attend the 2017 Diamond Awards at Target Field on January 26. Attendees will have a chance to bid on rare baseball memorabilia, join current and former Twins players and celebrate the Diamond Award winners. More details can be found here. MCC ED Joan Wright encourages you to save the date for the "Artful Aging Radio Hour" project, two live shows that will be performed and recorded for radio broadcast and podcast at 7:00 pm on January 23 and 24, at Pillsbury House Theatre in Minneapolis. "Artful Aging Radio Hour" is a collaboration between CommonBond Communities and EngAGE.MN, in association with Pillsbury House Theatre, Hippocrates Café, and Aroha Philanthropies. Each show in the "Artful Aging Radio Hour" project will feature inspiring older artists and performers who will share their valuable lifelong experiences as creators of art, music, dance and theater. More details to come in early January.

Pedestrian Work Group Meeting
December 21, 6:00 pm, Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Rm N-202
The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition is working to make Minneapolis a more pedestrian-friendly city. This meeting will focus on further narrowing initial priorities for pedestrian advocacy work. These priorities will guide the Coalition in deciding where to devote staff time, which elected officials to work with and developing strategies to effectively address each priority. All are welcome.
