Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Business After Hours

Journey Wellness Studio will host this Business After Hours on Thursday, December 8, from 5-7 pm at 81 West Doughton Street. 

New Location for Alleghany Office Supply

Their location is now at 665 South Main Street in Sparta, which is across from 21 Tavern Restaurant.

Angel Tree at the Alleghany County Library

The Alleghany County Library will sponsor its annual Angel Tree for community adults in need. The tree will be on display beginning mid-November with angels available for adoption beginning Monday, November 14. Weekly Rotary Program

The Club meets every  Thursday at 7 am  in the

Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the  Hillbilly Hoedown  with  Rise and Shine Band  every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free.   Hours are 7-10 pm with all ages welcome, unless otherwise noted.

Gingerbread House Contest

The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the first annual Gingerbread House Contest! These houses are on display at all the financial institutions in Sparta. Locals are encouraged to drop by the banks and vote for their favorite until December 8. Winners will receive Chamber Gift Certificates. Proceeds go to The Dream Factory, a youth entrepreneurial program in 2017.

Storyteller at the Priser Theatre

Linda Poland, the storyteller in residence for Jonesboro, Tennessee will perform her style of The Polar Express and other stories for adults and children on Thursday night, December 15th at the Priser Theatre.  The children's storytelling hour will be at 5:30, and the adult story hour will begin at 7:00.  This wonderful event is sponsored by the Arts Guild of Alleghany.  Please bring your children, grandchildren, and yourself to support this wonderful night presented by an award winning storyteller. Tickets, $10 for adults, $5 for children, will be available at the door.  We only have 50 seats for each session.  Do not miss out on this wonderful opportunity.
