Toys, Hats, and Mittens Drive Going on Now!

Principal's Pen

Advent is upon us, a time of great wonderment and expectation! This rich and powerful season of the Church year has always been especially meaningful to me because its emphasis is about slowing down, being still, and reclaiming the hope, light and peace in our lives. This is so challenging in these busy days before Christmas, when things can get so hectic! I would like to share a website that might make slowing down a bit easier. I wish that it will offer some hope and joy in the weeks ahead. Explore this Praying Advent  site.

As we focus on the Holy Family during Advent, it only seems fitting that I share some exciting news from our superintendent, David Thibault. On May 16, 2017, for the first time since the establishment of Catholic Schools in New Hampshire, all K-grade 12 students, faculty, staff, and their families will gather at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester for the consecration of our schools to Mary. Mr. Thibault states that "through this consecration, we will place our future growth and viability into the hands and heart of Mary." Here is a link to his full letter.

In order to pay for the cost of the stadium, Nashua Catholic must sell a minimum of 44 tickets to a Fisher Cats game on Saturday, June 24. Tickets are only $12.00 and include fireworks. The deadline to purchase tickets is December 31. These would make great stocking stuffers or secret Santa gifts!
Ticket order forms are available through this link.

May you have a blessed Advent and Holy Christmas!

Toys for Tots
This year, the Nashua Catholic National Junior Honor Society is collecting for two drives.  Donations for both the  Toys for Tots Program and Hats and Mittens Drive will be collected in the foyer. Toys should be new and unwrapped.  At Christmas, coordinators, with the assistance of local social welfare  agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies, distribute the toys to  less  fortunate children of the community. Thank you in advance for bringing smiles to children's faces at  Christmas this year.
 Due date is December 12th.

Hats and Mittens Drive in December!

Donations  to our traditional Hats and Mittens Drive will decorate  our foyer, hanging from the garland and branches of our Christmas tree.  How festive we will  look!  Many items are needed to meet the demand.  We have requests from the Men's Shelter on Ash Street and the Amherst Street School.
Please, help us to help, and be festive along the way!

Lessons and Carols-A Beautiful Advent Celebration
Please join us for Lessons and Carols, an annual tradition at Nashua Catholic. Students and faculty will present a traditional service where the beautiful music of Advent is illuminated by readings from Scripture. There will be many opportunities for the audience to join in the singing of familiar seasonal carols. This reflective worship service is held in our auditorium at 1P.M.on Friday, December 16, 2016.
Please pass on the invitation to NC alumni home from college on winter break. We hope to see them AND you at our Lessons and Carols Service.

Science Portfolio Information Session for Nashua High Schools

Naomi Hall, Nashua High School South Head Science Teache,r and Samantha Bencivenga, Nashua High School North Head Science Teacher, will be visiting with our NC 8th grade students who are planning to attend Nashua high schools on December 8, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. The meeting will take place in the student leadership room at Nashua Catholic.

The teachers will explain the physical science portfolio process to any interested eighth grade student and answer any questions the students may have. The ladies anticipate this meeting taking 15-30 minutes, depending on how many questions students ask.

The physical science portfolio is an option for eighth grade students who feel they have already met the physical science competencies and would like to get approval to take biology as soon as they enter high school. Submitting a portfolio does not guarantee that a student will test-out of physical science.

Nashua Holiday Stroll
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and that means Wildcats are working on even more ways to brighten the lives of those in our community! We are working with a number of veteran groups in NH toward a goal to distribute over 150 Christmas cards to veterans and servicemen and women this season.
Nashua Catholic volunteer families were stationed in front of Fresh of Nashua on Main Street during the Holiday Stroll (Saturday after Thanksgiving) with holiday cards to sign to show our gratitude to our country's veterans. Our station was well-received and supported by the Nashua community. Thank you to Fresh of Nashua for being our business sponsor during the Holiday Stroll and to all our families who helped.

Athletic Headlines

The snow has yet to really come down, but that doesn't mean we don't have our eyes on the winter for our athletic programs. Boys' and girls' basketball are underway and our teams have already improved a great deal. The boys' basketball team just secured their first victory of the season in thrilling fashion. Our boys defeated Timberlane in overtime on a last second shot by 8th grader Ryan Stack. Girls' basketball is working hard to get their first win and Coach Dave Schaub is already impressed with how the girls have been playing. "Our girls are tough, and they are starting to come together as a single unit. If we keep playing strong basketball it won't be long until we get a notch in the win column."
Our wrestlers and cheerleaders have been going at full tilt trying to master their techniques over the past couple of weeks. Cheerleaders performed their first halftime routine of the year, and the girls knocked it out of the park! The fans in the stands were cheering right along with our girls and school spirit was high. Wrestling is practicing some new moves and takedowns in anticipation of their first meet. Our wrestlers open their season Monday, December 5, when they travel  to Pelham. With a group of experienced returning 8th graders, along with an enthusiastic bunch of seventh graders, things are looking good for the season.
