For more than 75 years, Sterilite products have helped make everyday life a little easier and a lot more organized. You may be surprised by how many of our products are at work in your home today. It may be one of our heavy-duty Totes stacked in your garage with camping gear; a few of our Modular Drawers stacked in your closet helping to create an organized space; or maybe it's one of our Weave Baskets keeping your mail looking tidy on your kitchen counter.

Just one of six facilities located around the United States, the Lake Havasu City, Arizona plant employs over  350 people.

Each year, Sterilite participates in the yearly United Way Campaign and is proud to be a pace-setter organization as well as a Corporate Cornerstone supporter.  Each employee is provided an opportunity to attend workplace campaign meetings where they can meet River Cities United Way staff, partner agencies and learn about all of the beneficial programs made possible by their generous donations. After the campaign is wrapped up, Sterilite provides a United Way appreciation BBQ to all of their local employees.

High School Students Join Together to Help Those In Need

River Cities United Way worked with Lake Havasu High School students to form a Students United Week November 14-18 2016, for the purpose of gathering items for local community social service programs.  Sam Zilberman, student at LHHS, was the leader in coordinating several participating campus clubs. The National Honor Society ran a food drive to collect items for Interagency Community Food Bank. Little Knights Preschool made homemade hand turkey placemats for the clients of the Lake Havasu Meals on Wheels program which were delivered with their Thanksgiving meal.  The Library Club hosted a book drive for the Interagency Student Education Program and Literacy Council.  Student Council (StuCo) wrote positive quotes for The Salvation Army brown bag lunches for the homeless in our local community, just like a note from Mom.  Renaissance Club worked with Panda Express and hosted a fundraising food night for the clients of New Horizons weekly bowling activity.  Not only did the week of activities educate local students on needs of our community, but it also allowed them to give back to people who may just need a ray of sunshine to brighten their day.  Thank you to all the students that participated and the teachers that guide them every day in making better choices for all.

Left to Right:  Garrett McNearney (National Honor Society), Stephanie Nelson (StuCo), Cassidy Jacobs (StuCo), Sam Zilberman (Leader/Organizer), Candi Puckett (New Horizons), Angel Swentik (New Horizons), Clarice Howard (New Horizons), Katie Fitzgerald (Food Bank), Stephanie Lueras (The Salvation Army), and Debi Pennington (Interagency)

UniSource Energy Services Donates To Kids Bright & Healthy

Pictured above are UniSource employee volunteers (L to R) Nikole White; Christy Boone; June Deering; Dawn Darby, River Cities United Way; Lynne Petersen, Missy Grasser, and Bill DeJulio.

Volunteers from UniSource Energy Services in Kingman recently presented $2,000 to the River Cities United Way's "Kids Bright & Healthy" Initiative (RCUW KBH).  Kids Bright & Healthy helps to provide medical, dental and vision services to children in families that are uninsured or underinsured. Over 1,075 students have been helped since this program began in 2003. Several years ago, RCUW received a grant from Delta Dental to give low income and homeless children access to a dental cleaning, exam and x-rays.  Through this program, some children emerged with serious needs that needed to be addressed and RCUW KBH did not have enough funds to make that happen.  River Cities United Way applied for a grant with UniSources " Energy Community Impact Grants " and the grant now assists those children that have abscesses, rotten teeth and cavities.  The grant does not cover 100% of the additional costs but rather 50% and the local dentists that participate in the program accept payments from the family, so the child can be healthy and the family better understands the whole cost of keeping up on dental care.  UniSource has been a major contributor to RCUW by allowing a workplace campaign for their employees to donate and the Corporate offices match those donations to cover our Administrative expenses so 100% of what the employees donate, goes right back into their local communities.  Thank you Unisource!
Happy Healthy Smiles Curriculum Preparation Underway

On Tuesday, December 13th local Girl Scout troops 1585, 415, 89, 2400 helped prepare kits for Happy Healthy Smiles, a 2-week-long oral health program aimed to help 1300 Kindergarten students throughout Mohave and La Paz Counties, as part of the local Oral Health Coalition currently under the direction of River Cities United Way's Ashley Wood.  The smile kits include a toothbrush, toothbrush cover, toothpaste, floss, a 2-minute timer, smiley pencil, and a Dr. Seuss "The Tooth Book".  The curriculum will include activity pages, a visit from an oral hygienist or MCC dental student, a certificate and reward at completion. The program will roll out in February 2017 through 31 local elementary schools.

The program is funded through River Cities United Way's "Kids Bright & Healthy Program" in partnership with the coin-box businesses and grant funding from Delta Dental Foundation of Arizona & La Paz/Mohave Oral Health Coalition.

Currently River Cities United Way works with the schools to provide students without dental insurance dental exams free of charge, and up to 50% of restorative care is covered in partnership with UniSource's "Energy Community Impact Grants.  Of the students that are assisted, there is a 50-60% rate of tooth decay that is found, our goal is to reduce those numbers by 10% by 2020.
