E-Arkive The Electronic Newsletter for Ark and Dove

This year Presbyterians celebrate the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's 95 Theses. The theses , which criticized the sale of indulgences by church officials, are considered the opening salvo in the Protestant Reformation-a movement that emphasized individual relationships with God and salvation through faith alone. All are invited to commemorate 500 years of reformation, this Sunday, at both the 9:30 Traditional and 11:00 Contemporary Worship Services.

My grateful thanks to Ray Bussey, chair, and the 25th Anniversary team:  Donna Anderson, Kelly Burnett, Marcia Bussey, Paula Griggs, Claire Henderson, Linda Lewis, Jon Nelson, Amy Stavely, Rob Yeager and Kim Young for planning and hosting a wonderful evening.  Special thanks to Betsy Baer, Caitlyn Bussey, Adell Gaurin, Corinne Baker, Steve Debus, Debbie Arey, Jon Nelson, Brian Boudreau and Jack  Burnett for their remembrances, and awesome music from Rebecca, Mark, the band and choir.  Thank you to all of you for 25 years of partnership!  I very much appreciate the gifts of the stole, the mug and the walnut cheeseboard with the Presbyterian symbol!

And we have another anniversary.  This Sunday is the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.  Come find out what that means.  Hint, hint, 95 Theses and A Mighty Fortress Is Our God!

VERSE AND PRAYERS

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed-a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."  -
Romans 1:16-17

Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that beginning well means little unless one perseveres. So, I ask you to be my guide, not only today but for all my life. Increase your grace in me each day, until you have brought me into full union with your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who is the true Sun of our souls, shining day and night forever. Amen.

Evening Prayer
Lord God, you have made the night for us to rest, and you have created the day for us to work. I ask you to give my body a restful night, and to grant that my soul may be lifted up to you and my heart always filled with your love. Amen.

- John Calvin

Many opportunities await you!

N TES FOR YOU

This week, we celebrate Reformation Sunday, and we will sing "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God."

Nearly five hundred years have passed since Martin Luther penned the words to "A Mighty  Fortress is Our God." But time has neither diminished the hymn's popularity nor dulled its message. Today, in fact, the hymn ranks among the world's best-known, having been translated into almost every known language. It has appeared in hymnals the world over. Early in its history, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" served as a rallying cry for the Reformation movement. So powerful was the song's message that the reformers drew strength from it in even the darkest times

On "All Saint's" Sunday, we will be hearing beautiful music from soprano, Annie Gill.
Praised for "astounding technical vocal ability, solid song interpretation and stage presence," soprano Annie Gill continues to gain recognition as a distinctive and versatile emerging artist.  Particularly excelling in the repertoire of Mozart and Puccini, Ms. Gill has been commended for "a glorious voice - opulent from top to bottom," and possesses an extensive variety of vocal colors in her expressive full lyric soprano.  We are fortunate to have Annie Gill as one of our music teachers at Ark and Dove.

PRELUDE: PICK THE ONE YOU LIKE
PICK YOUR PRELUDE As we begin our next 25 years of Ark and Dove, we hope everyone will participate in the Fall Stewardship Campaign. While financial pledges are needed, and appreciated  this is not the only way you can participate.  To give people ideas, we have created the Prelude board in the lobby with ideas both financial and otherwise of what you can do as a personal Prelude. Please take a card to help remind you of your commitment, and if you don't see one you like, fill out a blank one with your own idea. Remember Dedication Sunday is November 19th.
