What is the UCM Foreign Language Film Festival?

  • Students in grades 6-12 display their language skills and creativity as they writefilmact in, and edit short films (5-10 minutes) in one of four foreign languages:  ChineseFrenchGerman, or Spanish.  Students add English subtitles and upload the films to youtube.  The day of the festival, students watch submitted films, attend workshops on filmmaking, and receive awards.

Where is the festival?

  • Students attend the festival on the UCM campus in Warrensburg, MO on April 7, 2017. 

What levels of students can participate?

  • The festival is open to students at all levels of language study in grades 6-12:

Elementary (1st and 2nd year)

Intermediate (3rd year)

Advanced (4th and 5th year)

What are the deadlines?

  • Register and upload films by March 4, 2017.
  • Upload the film from your YouTube of Vimeo channel to the festival's Film Freeway site. 
  • Request t-shirt (optional) by Monday, March 21st, 2017. (See t-shirt information below)
  • Attendance entry fees ($5 or $15) can be made anytime between now and the day of the festival, April 7, 2017.
  • Attend festival, April 7, 2017

How do I upload my film?

This year we are again using Film Freeway, a professional film festival site.

Please upload the actual film file to Film Freeway. Also, as a back-up please upload the film to a personal YouTube or Vimeo channel.

Are there awards?

     Awards in multiple categories are given.

Enter your film in one of six categories:

Animation 

Comedy

Drama

Mystery/Thriller

Science Fiction/Fantasy

Social Justice 

(animated films must be entered in this category)

There are TWO levels of entry fees.

  • Student only: $5.00
  • Student plus t-shirt: $15.00
  • Teachers are free.

A teacher's luncheon will be provided free of charge to all teachers.

This year our festival again coincides with the UCM Show Me Justice Film Festival and Politics and Social Justice Week. To support the "justice theme" please encourage your students to consider submitting a film in this category for the Foreign Language Film Festival. Cost is $5.00 per student who attends the festival, $15 if a t-shirt is requested.

Payments by credit card (see above link), check or cash may be mailed or brought to the festival.
